Urgent: 64 bit win 7 restore

I bought a toshiba laptop with windows 7. Of course, it doesn't come with an install disk, so I created a win 7 system restore disk (64 bit). Now, my laptop is running extremely slow and so I have tried to reinstall (or revert to an earlier state) using the disk.

This is what I've done so far:

insert repair disk (win 7 system restore 64-bit)
restart using computer's power button
click f2
select: recovery wizard
it kicks out the disk and gives this message "please set 1st recovery media, and press next to
continue" if i push the cd back in the process is repeated

Once I exit, I no longer see this menu (with recovery wizard and a second menu item (something about utilities)) but go straight to setup even though I repeat the process exactly.

Please help. I know that I am not knowledgeable, but a little help will go a long way here and I urgently need my laptop back.

I figured out what I was doing wrong in not getting the dvd to run.
(the dvd contains a couple of directories and a file "bootmgr"

press any key to boot from dvd
windows is loading files
then:" toshiba recovery wizard
selected: system recovery options
next
choose keyboard
restore using a system image that you created (but I don't think my recovery disk uses an image)
(load drivers?)
windows cannot find a system image on this computer

cancelling out of that brought me to a "system recovery options" screen

what i want to do is restore back to where the laptop was when I made the restore disk (after buying the laptop and removing software I didn't want and adding a couple that I did)

I'm willing to do the work to research this (which I've been doing for the last couple of days) but I'm running out of time. Maybe I am going about this the wrong way? any suggestions or insights are welcome. my laptop is so slow as to be unusable, but windows does come up. I have xp install disks. but my understanding is the system restore will keep the programs and settings that i had when created the disk, i don't want to lose these or win 7. Please help.

I'm afraid that probably won't help me. I can check it out, but basically without some human help, I think I'm screwed.

I bought it at Best Buy. sticker shows a serial number, but toshiba page says the serial number isn't valid. It doesn't even list the L645D family

Try this:

1. Make sure the computer is turned off.

2. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard while powering on the computer. When the computer powers on, the Toshiba Recovery Wizard screen displays.

3. Select one of the options, and then click Next. The options are: Recovery of Factory Default Software (recommended) or Erase the hard disk.
