NFS Most Wanted "Cannot locate CD-ROM"

Hey all,

I've got Need for Speed Most Wanted:Black Edition for PC. I tried installing it on my new PC build, and it installed successfully.

But, I cannot start the game. When I start the game, I get an error message:
"Cannot locate CD-ROM"

Yes, I do have the correct CD in the drive. I've even tried making an image of it and mounting the image with Daemon Tools, still no change.

Other things I have tried are running speed.exe in XP Compatibility Mode and with Administrative rights. Is there a patch or something I need to install? I can't find a solution anywhere .

I don't know if they ever really did a patch for the "Black Edition", but the latest patch of the game is 1.3.

How clean is the CD? Is it scratched up?

did you buy that CD? Or is a copy of original?

If it's a copied CD, it's not going to work.

It's an original CD, I got it a couple years ago (yes, legally). And yeah, it's really scratched up, lol.

Could it be the scratched CD? I thought it would be something else since I got it installed.

Try using any other mounting software , maybe PowerIso .

Here's the link try the free version - PowerISO - Create, Burn, Mount, Edit, Compress, Encrypt, Split, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter, Virtual Drive, DAA File

Thanks alikhan for the reply. I tried the software and still got the same message.

Could the game be looking for the wrong drive letter? Or maybe I didn't copy the disc correctly?

It sounds as if the game's not recognizing the cd, or it's looking in the wrong location. Or maybe the game doesn't detect the cd-rom or mounting software. Odd.

CD/DVD is protected by safedisc 4!!

OK, so try this fix: LINK REMOVED BECAUSE FIX IS ALREADY APPLIED.
Ok, it's called "Crack", but since you've got the CD, and have purchased it legally, I think you can download this...
EDIT; not tested this since NFS Most Wanted works fine with my CD; just googled and found this... So you're free to try out.

Good news, it worked!

I replaced the original speed.exe with the downloaded one. Then I set it to compatibility mode for XP SP2 and set it to run as administrator. Now the game starts normally after I mount the image with Power ISO.

Yes, but he has LEGALLY purchased the game already, and he can't use his disc. I think he has the rights to play... And BTW; because it's working now for him, I deleted the link. Please delete it from your quote too.

Glad you have it fixed. Bummer it wouldn't see the stupid cd-rom.
