Or you purchased it many years ago. I remember back in the day, when i upgraded my Packard Bell 486-SX25 from the 4MB of RAM it had on the motherboard and I added a 16MB (MEGABYTE) SIMM chip to increase my ram to a total of 20MB (MEGABYTE). I waited for the price to drop on that 16MB chip to $300 and then I jumped all over it.

I remember my first floppy drive the 1541 for Vic 20 and C64 they soaked me DM700 (~USD350) for it.
And that was 5.25" SS/SD single sided, single density only 180kb IIRC. You had to use a hole puncher to use the second side of those floppies.

My first real PC was an IBM PC Model 5150, in 1983. I have the receipt framed on the wall back in my old workplace, 24,000 Finnish marks. When we got euro, the coversion was 5,99 FIM to one euro so that would be about €4,000, but that's not how it works with inflation and everything. According to the Central Statistics Bureau of Finland I have to use a 2,2 multiplier when converting money from 1983 to 2010, so the "real" price in todays money would be around €8,800 ($11,800 or £7,400).

Worth to mention, my quite OK salary was then around 2,500 FIM per month gross, before taxes. To buy the PC took almost a years net. How many of us geeks would buy a computer today if it took a years income?

You wouldn't believe it, but since you brought it up, we still have one of those quare holepunchers in the shed, lol.
I had completely forgotten about it till now.

Yes, we had a huge big box called a computer with 2 x 5 1/4" floppies (no hdd).
