No Audio Drivers?

My boyfriend is running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and he made the mistake of downloading a lot of risky things, which resulted in his pc being riddled with viruses . We deleted everything and ran a factory reset, but now his audio drivers are gone! We don't have the install or drivers discs that came with the laptop because we bought it from a friend, so we're wondering what exactly we need to do. We tried downloading Realtek HD Audio driver, but it still reads that no sound drivers can be found. Please help!!

Without knowing what the PC is all we can do is guess or offer some general suggestions.

One general issue, if the PC's audio is Win 7 compatible Windows will install the generic, basic function, High Definition Audio drivers. If this is not being done, either the reinstall was not done properly or possibly the sound was inadvertently disabled in the BIOS.

Also check the Device Manager, sound section and see if there is any entry and if there is any error code.

Can't offer anything else without more information.

Sorry about that! I have a Notebook 2000-416DX PC, it's running Windows 7 x64 edition(I can't get the specifics at the moment, I only know that it's 64). When I hover over the volume on the status bar it tells me that "No Audio Output Device is installed". I don't really know more to give you, I'm not well versed nor educated in Windows software of PC hardware

Open Device Manager and left-click on Sound controller section ,then click Action tab and click "Add legacy hardware",it should automatically restore the deleted driver,good luck!

Thank you for your input. My problem now is that every Audio driver I download tells me "Invalid access to memory location". I'm starting to think this problem might be deeper than just a driver?
