No boot after new RAM

My computer came with 2 slots of memory. 1 2GB DDR2 and 1 1GB DDR2. I bought a PNY 2 GB DDR2 laptop memory module. Installed it as the directions on Toshiba.com said. When I booted up though, it wont boot up into anything except the BIOS. It wont boot into the windows partition or my Windows Install disk (was going to see if that could fix it).

Any ideas?

sure boot into bios and check fro a setting called max mem. should be unchecked. if not there Is the 2 gig you bought and the old 2 gig exactly the dame specs? what is the max memory your computer can handle?

it's generally not a good idea to mix and match ram modules you want to use match pairs but as always with ram make sure they are seated all the way try to boot form one stick at a time as you may have a defective stick of brand new ram!

I looked and there was no setting for that. If you want i can take pictures of all my BIOS pages so you can see what settings there are.

And my computer can handle 8GB of RAM.

Another side note:

it boots into the BIOS, so when i did go to the setup page, it could see all 4 GB of ram but it wouldnt boot into anything.

See if you can get it to boot to a cd running memtest86, if it does let it run. If not try pulling the original stick out and just run the new stick (this will tell you if the two sticks don't like each other.) If the new stick works by itself sell the original and buy another of the new sticks.

Just try interchanging the RAM slots. This may work at times...!!!

Its very hard to get the ram to seat correctly in a Toshiba, well at least the one i installed it in - you have to use an angle of about 45 deg to get it to seat correctly - you will hear it slot in place when it seats, and if it doesnt it wont boot. You can find the correct memory to buy in your user manual if you need to check, but it sounds as though thats already done.

None of these were right. I found out (GeekSquad) that it was because my current RAM didnt want to run at the lower clock speed of the one I bought. so i just bought a 800 MHz ram and it works fine.

mismatch ram not a good idea always use match pairs.... if you use two different speeds it will try to force to the lowest speed of the pairs
