My computer refuses to boot after much pleading. This is the sequence:

-did a clean install on new 4t disk using UEFI
-Windows did not boot with my 2 data disks connected but did boot when I unplugged them
-after unplugging the data disks and rebooting into win7, I did update to SP1

-after update, I reconnected the data disks and the computer rebooted properly
-after Sp1 install, I updated the 186 updates from Windows Update
-after update computer booted properly
-Windows Update advised on some more updates which included SP2 and, I think, Realtek driver and possibly Intel chip update (don't really remember this one)

-did the update
-on restart got a black screen with a note

"The system found unauthroized changes on the firmware, operating system or UEFI drivers."
-It had other comment to run other boot devices, but I tried them all and got similar results.

-I tried a clean install again but I get the same message.

Will I have to use diskpart to prepare the disk again and go through the whole rigamarole?

System:
Loading Windows 7 64bit

Asus P8H77-V motherboard
Intel i5-3000 series cpu
8gb ram
Gigabyte AMD graphics

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi argy,

I would advise you to start off with an ISO that already includes SP1.

You can download the latest Windows 7 SP1 ISO file from here: TechBench

Then use the following information:

Windows [Final] > Windows 7 SP1 [build 7601] > Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 > English > Win_Ult_SP1_English_x64.iso

Obviously change the language and bit type to suit.

Once downloaded, extract the contents of the ISO using something like 7-Zip and then either delete or rename the ei.cfg [ISO > Sources > ei.cfg] file [this will unlock all the versions of Windows 7 and make them available on reinstallation] from the ISO and either burn it [you can't just copy and paste it because it won't work] to a DVD or USB ready for the clean installation.

You could also use the ei.cfg removal utility: ei.cfg removal utility

Note: If the version of Windows you are installing is Windows 7 Ultimate then there is NO need to remove the ei.cfg file as instructed above.

To burn a DVD you could use the Windows 7 built in ISO burner.
To burn to a USB you could either use: Rufus 2.18 or Rufus 2.18 Portable.

On the installation you can select whatever version of Windows 7 you have a valid Product Key for. This is also the only version you will be able to activate.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you backup ALL your essential files before you start a clean install. This is because during the clean install process ALL your documents, pictures, music, data files and any installed software programs will be erased and become irretrievable.

I hope this helps!

EDIT: If you are interested in making the updates process quicker after the clean install then please let me know and I will post an option.
