Hi,

I have I problem which I have not been able to solve and wonder if someone might know an answer.

I have 2 PC’s and a Laptop on my Home network.

PC 1 using Windows XP is my main computer is wired to my Belkin wireless router and accesses the internet fine with no probs.

My Laptop Windows 7 accesses internet wirelessly with no problems

PC 2 using windows 7, although finding my wireless network full signal strength shows a small yellow triangle against the wireless symbol in the task bar and when I put mouse pointer over it, it shows ‘Unidentified Network, no Internet Access’

To be honest I had same sort of problem before putting Windows 7 on it, it had XP before.

Belkin ran through various checks with me and all were fine, they said it did not seem to be a router problem.

All 3 computers have Nortons on them configured the same and Trust Control set so the all computers trust each other.

Wireless adaptor is a PCI Realtek.

Anyone know why this is happening with PC 2 when Laptop hooks up fine?

Thanks.

Hello there, have you checked if the Wireless PCI Adapter is running with the latest drivers? and also, why don't you try a Winsock Reset?

Open up an elevated command prompt (type cmd in search, right click and run as administrator)

Copy the following lines:

netsh winsock reset catalog
(hit enter)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (hit enter)

Reboot your PC and check if you're able to connect to the internet now :)

I did wonder about the Wireless Adaptor but assumed as the computer was seeing the network it must be working? but will look for latest drivers.

Sure, it installs Windows 7 drivers from the repository, but it's always recommended to download and install latest drivers from the manufacturer :D

Try that and if it doesn't work, try the winsock reset.

Please report back :)

Do I include the spaces in each line ie netsh (space) winsock etc?

Yes, include all spaces :D

Updated the Realtek driver still no luck.

But...did the winsock thing and lo and behold...back in business. you're the man!!

So Punkster, what did the two lines of command actually do to make it work again, I have struggled for weeks trying to sort this out.

Is it likely to last or might I have to do it again?

Thanks.

Woo hoo :D Glad to hear your problem was solved!

Winsock entries tells Windows 7 how to access your network services. Additionally, your TCP/IP protocol can be corrupted. The TCP/IP protocol is a stack of 4 layers that includes several transport layers, but when this stack is corrupt you will constantly have connectivity issues.
netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

Looks like I might have spoke too soon.

Same thing happened again but the winsock procedure does not put it right this time.

Do you have this problem with the laptop only when using a wireless connection, or does it also happen if connected directly via Ethernet?

Try connecting with an ethernet cable to see if you continue to have a problem.
