ebuzz. As has been suggested you can save 12 gb by disabling Hiberfile, probably 12 gb by reducing the Pagefile from 15 gb down to 1 or 2 gb, as you have a SSD & 16 gb of RAM, as then you can save another 26 gb by relocating your iphone files as suggested by johnhoh. All up you could save about 50 gb, plus what you might also save by running Ccleaner & Windows Disc Clean up.

What you can save:
12 gb from the hiberfile
12 gb by reducing the pagefile size
26 gb relocating iphone files
50 gb total. Plus what you might gain from Ccleaner & Disc clean up.

As your current C drive is 125 gb, this means you probably could gain nearly half of it capacity again.

I see that, but that erases all my data. Didn't you mention a way to take an image of the old HD and then apply that image to the new one?

Yes a Clean Install will format the partition or drive and you will loose your data.

Before doing a Clean Install you back up what you want to save to a external drive.
Programs in my opinion should be cleaned installed on your new install of Windows 7.
Once you have completed the Clean Install of Windows 7 and wanted programs I would make a backup or a clone of the new install of the Drive/Partition to a external drive.
Tuck that backup/clone away in a safe place.

I use Macrium Reflect to do all backup's and clones.

If you desire you could use the paid for version.

Ok, I managed to move the iTunes backup to another drive.
I disabled the hiberfile so that freed up room;
Also, I cant set the page file to less than 16mb? Why?

"...Also, I cant set the page file to less than 16mb? Why?" You might want to leave the pagefile alone awhile, let the dust settle somewhat from the other changes. There is a "manual over-ride" within Windows 7 that normally allows a person to set the page file size. However, be forewarned, too large or too small a page file could affect Windows 7 performance smoothness. Maybe check with Microsoft support or KB articles about page file operations before making a major change.

First I have to change the setting from Automatically manage page file size for all drives to - custom
Then a message pops up saying
"The initial page file size must be between 16 and 1677126...MB and cannot exceed the amount of free space on the drive you selected."

There's also a statement at the bottom of the Virtual memory window that the min allowed is 16mb

here's a pic of mine

btw don't forgot that 16MB is 0.1% of 16GB. Pretty small. If you don't want to go with a disabled page file, 1GB or so like Ranger said above is another option.

A page file compensates for your lack of computer memory by serving as an extra storage place when your regular memory gets too full. By disabling it, you no longer have an extra place to put data and storage if your regular memory gets too full. If you search on "is it safe to disable my page file?" you will see 97 answers, some saying "its no problem if you have 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB of memory" and some saying "No. And by the way never use scissors, because you might put an eye out". I encourage anyone with 8GB or more to try it out and see if they suffer negative symptoms. You can always go back. If you edit multi-GB files and do not autosave regularly, in that case its possible you might freeze and be unable to save. Its never happened to me, but that is a downside.

Both of my systems have 16 GB of ram.
I have played with pagefile a lot a while back and I found if I let System (Windows 7) to take care of paged file.
Windows 7 only uses pagefile when it is needed.
Windows 7 know how to take care of the memory, so let it do what needs to be done.

Sometimes I do get messages from my AV software that it's detected Windows, Firefox or whatever else is using a lot of memory. Not sure why that happens with the page file I've been using.

**Also what security scans have you done?
A infection can eat up memory.
Do you use any cleanup, tuneup or registry programs?
Do you use any program by IObit?

Why a anti virus program would be monitoring memory usage is puzzling.

+1! I found out much the same thing. Awhile back I let Norton System utilities handle the page file and it did a pretty good job! Windows 3.1 - WFW 3.11; Since Windows 95...I let Windows take care of itself.
