I have a HP G7 1365DX laptop. One day was using my logitech mouse and next thing i know it stops working. Pluged the USB mouse into my desktop and it works fine.
I have reinstalled my OS, Uninstalled my USB Host conroller and reinstall, same thing to USB Root hub, updated my boose and yes rolled back the drivers as ell. Have done everything under the sun except install a new motherboard. my divice manager finds the USB ports and says they are working.
Just no pwer to them. Anyone have any ideas? Oh yea its my wifes laptop so NO rest when she is unhappy and belive me she is UNHAPPY!.:( U married guys know what im talking about. Thanks for the help.

Hi motorcoachdoug, welcome to 7F! :)

Have you tried to use any other USB devices with the Laptops USB ports?

I can't see how the logitech mouse could of stressed them, but I found this: Re: HP G7-1365dx laptop has no power out on the USB ports - HP Support Forum - 1893659

To check, you would have to find the power requirements of the mouse, and compare that to what the ports put out.
I could see it if the mouse requires more power or is close to the supplied power of the USB ports.

There is also this:
Besides electrical life, there also can be issues with the plug itself; it’s a natural stress point, and any repeated flexing of the joint between the mechanical plug and its electrical connections can lead to failure of the connections. Many people who routinely use flash drives use a flexible USB extension cable that allows for easier, better alignments of the plugs and sockets; and/or to let the (relatively) disposable cable take the brunt of the mechanical abuse, rather than the flash device itself.

I did a roll back on my Bios drivers. Not only did my mouse not work but nothing else works as well. Tryed a differant mouse, USB keyboard, Checked to see if power was comming from the usb ports with a old usb cable I had and got out my power meter also to check. NADA DEAD!! I tried 6 other USB divices and Not a single one worked. I updated chipset, updated Biose also and so forth. Nope NOthing at all..

Just so we're clear, the laptop works and boots into the OS. the only thing that doesn't work are the USB connections on the Laptop. Correct?

If so, then I would have to say you need to disassemble the laptop and check the wires leading to the USB connection.

If you have power coming from the wires, then the USB connectors are bad and need replaced.
If the USB connections are soldered directly to the Motherboard (MB), you'll need a new MB, unless you can trace the power loss back to a specific component on the MB.

It could just be a cracked solder connection where the USB connectors are attached to the MB.

If its under warranty get a RMA from HP or the place you purchased it, and send it in.

Yep
The laptop boots just fine. no tropble while its booting up. Everything works like it should except the 2 usb ports which are hard wired right to the motherboard.

I was afraid i was thinking what you thought about the motherboard as well. which means send the laptop back in for repair. I married man is not happy when the wife is not happy and believe me she is NOT Happy:mad:so no rest and peace and quiet until we get it back or i buy the MB and install myself which i can do also.
Thanks for your help

I hate leaving a fellow married man in a bind....:p

You did this once, but try it again.

Go into Device Manager and right click the Enhanced Open Host Controller or the highest order controller you have under USB and Uninstall it. Then Right click any device in the Device Manager and Scan for Hardware Changes, this should reinstall it.

If that doesn't work then go into the BIOS and Disable USB press F10 or what you need to press to save the new setting then restart.

On the next restart go back into the BIOS and Enable USB pressing F10 or what you need to press to save the new setting. When you boot up it will load fresh USB drivers.

Here's another possible solution, it starts at post 7: Tech Support Guy Forums - Usb ports not working for any mouse!!

I'm coming to the end of different things to try.

Your welcome Doug, hate to see it end up this way. :(

Don't forget to save all personal data, programs, and their keys, and, you may have an activation problem with the OS if the new MB is too different from the original, whether or not you or HP installs it.. But they would be able to handle that better if they did it.

A couple of good programs for gathering computer, program information are Belarc or Speccy.

But, As one better half to another, it would behoove you to take the Dear Wife out shopping for a new machine, and maybe a dinner afterwards, keep her involved. You know, to help smooth things out.

It would be a lot better than having her watch or handing you tools during surgery. :p

If you can, please keep us updated to your progress.
