No sound after headphones plugged in

Hey

I bought a 2230s HP laptop less than a month ago. I noticed the phono-stick was really, really tight. But my headphones could still go in.
But a few days ago, when I had had my headphones plugged in, my speaker didn't work after that. Or there came no sound
I restarted my computer and checked configurations and stuff, but couldn't find anything wrong. I plugged my headphones back in and they could still play and when I took them out again everything worked perfect again.

Yesterday it happened again, but now it didn't work to replug my headphones. The headphones plays, but my speaker don't.
I don't know if it is a hardware problem or it is windows, that doesn't register, that I pulled out my headphones :S
And I can't find anywhere where I can see output in the sound-configurations.

Any idea?

Welcome to Seven Forums Maeggoel. The headphone jack has a "switch" in it that shuts off the speakers when you plug in the headphones. It's usually just a contact the headphone jack contacts. Sounds like you might have a bad headphone jack. Try working the jack in and out and see if the speakers give intermittent sound, or come back. A Guy

Sounds like a warranty issue. I would contact the seller as it's been such a short while and voice a complaint and with luck get a RMA started. Sorry to hear of the intermittent nature but this doesn't sound like it will work it's self in but more will work it's way out. Keep us in the loop.

The problem might be because it is dirty. Get some pipe cleaners (those little wires with bristles on them to clean pipe stems), and dip them in some rubbing alcohol.
Then twist them to fit in the jack, and move them around for a bit with your laptop off. Make sure that it is dry before you use it again.

Hey

Thanks for the advices. I managed to handle it myself. I uninstalled all sound drivers/devices-stuff and when windows found its own drivers it worked. And now there is both a "Speakers"-device and a "Headphones" device in "Playback devices", which there wasn't before.
However when I plug in my headphones it doesn't change the output, so it still plays in the speakers. I have to change that manually everytime. Can I change that?

Not to my knowledge on my Gateway laptop which runs XP it will always shut of the speakers when the audio output has a plug in it. Sounds like you may need to do some more research on this as your model may have other options. I would contact HP and ask them if this is normal and if not then it's up to you if the work around is worth it to keep or best to RMA and start fresh. Good luck, the Cheese

Yeah, well it worked as it should before. When I plugged something in the speakers stopped. But after it "jammed" and I got the sound back, now I have to do it manually. I'll just try to look more into it.

you need to set your headphone as default... go to Start>Control Panel>Sound>Playback tab: if you don't see "Headphones" right click "Speakers" then click "Show disconnected devices" but if your eadphone is plugged in, set it as default...hope it works because it worked for me..
