I have a creative xfi xtreme gamer, which works fine, I get all sound and features I should in Win 7...that is that I use or am aware of :-)

I seriously just put another hard drive in my system and closed the case. Fired it up and BAM, no sound when playing DVD's.

I have looked everywhere and double checked all settings, but again nothing should have changed. Any suggestions on what i might have done.

DVD drive is SATA and there is no audio cable to unplug, this worked yesterday - how the heck did i mess this up :-)

Welcome!

First, make sure your speakers are plugged in securely.

You can also try removing the new hard disk, and see if the problem goes away.

Can you hear sound in any other situations, other than playing DVDs? Can you try a different program to play the DVDs?

Thank you for replying.

Everything works normally, except DVD audio.

Sound is present in Windows, CD playback, games, etc. When trying to play a DVD I get picture and no sound.

I have removed the other SATA hard drive to no avail. The only reason I mentioned it was just to indicate I was rooting around in the system, but thinking about it now i realize there are no audio plugs or cords etc that I might have left undone.

I only have 1 DVD drive in the system which is playing CD's properly and video from DVD's but no sound.

All of this worked literally hours ago.

I can understand your frustration.

Can you try playing the DVDs with another program, like VLC?

I'd double check inside your case to make sure all cables are plugged in securely. You may have bumped something when you installed your drive, and a cable is getting bad connection.

After all, it never hurts to check that sort of thing every now and then. You never know, maybe another cable is loose, and may come unplugged soon!

Hmmm,

Wierd, problem solved.

I tried re-installing the drivers and running update, it didn't resolve the issue.

On a whim, I did it again, and it worked.

Thanks for your time and help.

That is strange to me.

Oh well, I'm glad it's fixed!
