No sound, Realtek sound inputs assigned randomly

The realtek audio managers shows that the front two inputs, front mic and headphones, are always plugged in when there is nothing in them at all. When I plug in my speakers to the back green input for sound it inputs both the green one, front speakers out, and the blue input, line in.

Now I get no sound when I set it to HD audio but I get a little sound when its set to ac97. Also there is a constant static ringing sound going on. When the computer is first turned on the speakers do a very large pop, then start winding up getting loader and loader and pops again. Then it just sits with static. This happened when I turned my computer back on.

I tested the speakers and they work just find on other devices so its not the speakers.

How the heck does this happen and how does one fix this?

I suggest that you install a new version of the Realtek sound driver:

If that does not resolve it, something might be wrong with your sound adapter.

The Realtek in your motherboard is the HD Audio type, thus the HD Audio connector from the front panel should be used. However, there may be a problem with the connector/cabling/front panel in the case. Disconnect the front panel connector, at the motherboard and see if the rear jacks work correctly and the RealTek manager shows correctly. If it works OK, that suggests some type of problem with the case wiring or jacks.

Check the Device manager to see if there is anything extra, such as HD Audio Codec, that is listed in the Sound section of the Device Manager. If your video card has HDMI, you should see an entry for that and the entry for the RealTek. Anything else uninstall in the Device Manager, then restart the PC and see if it changes anything.

Unplugged the front panel wiring and its still doing it. Says the front panel is connector still. Everything is the same. I went into the device manager and disabled the ati high definition audio and left the realtek high definition audio going and disabling both of them didn't stop the static ringing.
