No Sound Windows 7 upgrade from Vista

I just upgraded from Vista on my HP Pavilion a6150e desktop. Everything works well except sound. I've been reading threads and trying several things, including:

1. Updating driver
2. Deleting driver and letting Windows 7 configure
3. Visiting RealTek and trying downloads (refers me to HP)
4. Visiting HP (nothing found there)

Device manager states everything is working in sound. However, there is no multimedia audio controller driver, and Windows 7 can't find one. I don't know if this is related to the other.

Anyone can help me with some options? THANKS.

Are you using Windows 7 64 bit or 32 bit?
Windows 7 uses Vista drivers, have you tried downloading and installing the Realtek audio drivers from your HP product page?

Thank you for responding to my request. I've tried exactly what you propose, and I think this would be the answer; but upon installing, I get this message: Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Installation has been canceled (9998).

I'm running Windows 7 32-bit, and I'm using an HP Pavilion deskstop a6150e.

Any advice? THANK YOU.

Ok, using 7zip (32bit installation), right click the downloaded Realtek installer that you got from the HP site page for your pc - 7zip - extract to "sp37324\"

Then go to start - search - type "device manager" (without ""'s) - open device manager - expand sound, video and game controllers, right click the Realtek High Definition Audio entry - update driver software - browse my computer, browse to the sp37324\ folder that you just created with 7zip and hit ok

That sounded like good advice. I did everything you suggested (and understood everything, too) and felt this was on the verge of working, when Windows 7 stopped the process and said my computer had the best driver, not allowing the download. I then disabled the audio drivers and tried to download, with the same result. Finally I uninstalled the driver and tried to load it by hitting the downloaded driver, and that brought me back to the message, your computer doesn't meet minimum requirements for the download.

I do appreciate your working the problem. You're good. If you have any other suggestion, please let me know, OK?

I'm not sure by his last post that it's fixed. If it is, then disregard my post.

Otherwise a driver troubleshooting tutorial is in my sig.

I don't know if your sound issue is related to drivers, but it wouldnt hurt to troubleshoot things.

Have you tried downloading the drivers through Windows Update?
Start - search type wuapp.exe - hit enter - click Check For Updates - XX Optional Updates are available
If present, check the box for Realtek audio and install.

If there's nothing there, or if that doesn't work, locate the previously downloaded Realtek installer, right click it - properties - compatibility tab - check Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows Vista - check privelege level - Run this program as administrator.

If that doesn't work, try installing it in Safe Mode

Told this is not fixable

I work at a research university with "technology" part of its official name. I brought the unit to my technicians. They say this is not fixable. It's a Windows 7 issue, not a Vista or RealTek one.

I did try everything you advise below before bringing the unit to the university.

The techs suggest a new sound card or, if I don't want to remove the one in the unit, an external sound card.

I am not a teck, and I am going through the same issue right now with the realtek problem and no sound, but I disagree with it being a win 7 issue. I had to re-install my windows 7 ultimate because of some adobe issues and before doing this I had win 7 running for several months and the sound was fantastic. Has to be another issue.
