No valid IP config?

I'll be here for a little while longer (currently attempting to install XP on a machine already running Windows 7). Hopefully the IPv6 disable magically fixes everything.

Good morning/evening all. Still can't access the 'net on 7HP, no such problems on XP Pro SP3.

I tried everything I can think of. Disabled v6, no difference. Rebooted router, modem, switch, PC, even my dog...no dice. Even plugged my ethernet cord directly from the cable modem to the PC...no difference.

Are you folks sure that there is nothing in that windows.old folder that I need for web access? 7HP is running great except for two things I see at this time:

This IP config thing (the ethernet card is installed fine, 7HP recognizes it, and obviously it is functioning ok in XP too). One thing I noticed is that in 7HP I have no addy for the default gateway...but in XP Pro SP3 I do.

The other thing is the sound card. Again, works fine in XP but no dice at all in 7HP. I'm hoping to go online and get a driver for it, but if that does not work I'll go to BB and grab a new one.

Really appreciate the efforts here so far. Please keep the help coming!:)

Set a static IP. It won't solve the DHCP problem, but it will allow you to get online.

Good Morning kego! I will try the static IP addy thing next, just will grab the tut for that here :) .

I think I may have stumbled onto something. My NIC card, NETGEAR FA311, doesn't seem to have any drivers for Win7 yet. It does say that it is Vista compatible, but does that make a difference?

As it looks right now, I will probably go to BB and get a new sound card since my CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device doesn't seem to be Win7 compliant either. Should I invest in a new NIC or wait?

Great find kego, I'll try it.

Should I install these drivers in XP, or 7HP?

You already have drivers installed, so let's just leave them in place and make the changes suggested in the thread to which I linked.

So, In Advanced tab, Selected Speed & Duplex settings, selected 100Tx in the place of Auto sense.
Went to Power Management, Unchecked both the check boxes. Clicked Ok.
