So I have an old music controller that won't work above Windows 7.
I have 7 installed on my Dell Inspiron 1720 64bit.
The software I use for this controller is Seato DJ but it sometimes hangs on exiting and sometimes runs jittery. The pc itself has been going years and been used for alsorts including a few dodgy downloads in the past.
I want to completely wipe the pc, re install windows 7 with all the updates, install Seato freshly, and then never go near the Internet or do anything else on this pc so its just a solid music platform. Probably then gonna buy a new pc and just use this one only for what I've just explained.

The last time I did a fresh Windows 7 install it took about a week of constant updates and service packs etc. Is there a way to just get all these in one hit?
Whats the best way to go about doing what I'm wanting to achieve?
I do have an oem world Home Premium install disk and product key.

Thanks in advance for the help

J

Welcome to the Forum

The easiest way to reinstall is to run Factory Recover (launch from BIOS or from Windows).
As it will format the C: drive you must backup all your data on an external drive first.

Factory Reset or Reinstall Windows 7 on your Dell Computer

A OEM license can only be used in one computer. If it was used to activate a Win 7 on another computer it can ONLY be used to reactivate the same computer, can't be used on another (OEM license can't be transferred).

If your Dell still have the original Win 7 installation, you can save the current SLP license (using ABR or Dism++), install win 7 using your Win 7 disk and reinstalling the SLP license.
This is my favorite as it doesn't install all the Dell bloatware softwares.

Once the recovery is done, set WU service to manual and WU to never check so it doesn't get the tracking files.
For the updates, use Single file with all updates - Simplix

jonnyboy69:
The Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop was introduced in 2007.
Dell provides driver support for it only for Windows XP and Windows Vista 32-bit.
What is the exact 7-character "service tag" number on yours?
