Hi,

I recently installed Windows Ultimate 7 upgrade on top of existing Vista installation, and I'm not encountering weird behaviour when it comes to sidebar gadgets.

The 1st issue was that I wasn't able to install new gadgets, as clicking on "Desktop Gadget Gallery" wouldn't start anything, nor right-clicking on the sidebar and selecting "Gadgets".

I found a handy tip from here, and turned all gadgets off, restarted and turned them back on. After the 2nd restart, I was able to get to Gadget Gallery, and remove/install gadgets.

Unfortunately, the story doesn't end here. If I want to change e.g. the outlook of the "clock gadget", I have to go to gadget options, change the looks, confirm, and repeat the whole "change options" once more to actually see the gadget change.

For Google search gadget, what ever change I make doesn't seem to roll over, not even with the "do it twice" - method that seems to work for "Clock" and some other gadgets.

Any good suggestions what one should do?

The system is set to have two languages, Finnish and English, and the upgrage was Vista (FIN) -> 7 Ultimate (FIN). Could the installed languages and the fact I'm using English setting mess gadgets up?

another thing to keep in mind is that anyone can create gadgets and may be coded poorly and/or contain malicious code. so its good idea to scan any downloaded gadgets before installing.

Thanks, OS

Thanks, OS.

I was able to solve the issue by restoring default gadgets as explained in

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/10215-gadgets-restore-default-gadgets.html.

I had to remove all gadgets from the desktop, and then restore default gadgets.

Weirdly enough, restoring defaults gave me three instances of "Norton 360 gadgets" on the sidebar. I removed those, and added the ones I wanted, and this fixed the "update" issue. So now making changes in the gadget options actually take effect, which is a improvement to earlier state :p.
