Notepad Program?

Does anyone have/ know some code I could save into my notepad as a .bat file or something that would act as software on my computer. The only other program made out of code saved into notepad that I've seen opened/ejected the cd drive.

I want it to perform the same function as pressing the Fn key + the number one "1" on my keyboard.

I have this software I downloaded called CoreTemp that allows you to browse for a program to execute with your processor reaches a certain temperature (in degrees Celcius). The FN+1 shortcut on my computer turns the fan to 100% power.

Does anyone know how? I'm new to programming entirely.

What scan code does your keyboard generate for Fn + 1? That's the quandary. The Fn key by itself does not generate a code. The keyboard processor modifies the code placed in the keyboard buffer for other keys when the Fn key is pressed. It's usually keyboard specific. At least I haven't seen any spec for it. It doesn't appear in any keyboard character table and since it doesn't generate a code, you can't "read" it to perform an action.

In your case, it sounds like the Fn + 1 is being handled by a driver or the BIOS. On my PC all it does is generate a "1".

I have no idea. It just cranks up the fan to 100%. I have a Sager Laptop with a Clevo Co. W150HRM motherboard. The BIOS is by American Megatrends Inc. Version 4.6.4

What exactly are you trying to do? Send keystrokes from a program? If so, the easiest for newbie programmers on Windows is probably AutoIt3

The syntax is very much like Basic with Select Case, While Wend, For loops etc..

You use the Send command to send keystrokes. For example Send("{F1}")

If you don't have function keys on your keyboard you can use another combination as hotkey and use Send to send the F1 instead. Use HotKeySet function to associate a hotkey with a function(not a function key but a block of code that is called by name.) The AutoIt3 download comes with a help file with many examples.

edit: btw not every AutoIt3 program is a hotkey. You can do stuff with it very similar to basic and other programs. But the way the hotkey programs work, they place an icon in the Task Tray and watch for the key presses. When they see the one you set as the hotkey, they call the function you associated with the key. The function can do stuff like pop up a window, or just send a different key or combination of keys to the active window etc..

Maybe the thing to do is search for an exsisting program that all it does is run the fans at 100% for some period of time. I'm pretty sure it will need to be BIOS specific though.

If Fn + 1, whatever that is, is a global hotkey, then AutoIt3 can send it. It's trivial. Just lo9ok in the help file. I don't get all the bit about the BIOS. If there's a software running that bumps the fans when you press the hotkey combo and the hotkey is global, then you can simulate it with AutuIt3. It's a macro app foremost and also a general scripting language for Windows programming.

That is the problem. The Fn key is NOT a hot key. It has no keyboard code--It doesn't generate any character. The Fn key instructs the keyboard processor to change the key code for the next character typed. It's that modified key code that is undefined. You can't send (Fn + 1) it in a script if you don't know what it is.

I think it would be better to just use Speed Fan. It has automatic fan control built in when temps go above a preset limit. And, you can set the fan to 100% if you wish.

I've tried SpeedFan before. My MoBo wasn't on the list of compatibles and sure enough, I had zero fan control options. The only thing it was good for was telling me my CPU and GPU temps. I'll try out AutoIt3 though.

Just to make sure I understand what's happening; Can you type Fn + 1 at anytime to increase fan speed or is it only when CoreTemp is running? In other words, is CoreTemp controlling the fan?

Out of curiosity, could you run Windows Task Manager then click on the Processes tab? At the bottom, check "Show processes from all users". Then post a screen shot. You might have to post it in two sections if your's is long.

Just wondering if we can figure out what process, if any, is "watching" for the {Fn + 1}.
