Solved Now Dual Booting w/ Vista

I am dualbooting both x64 of Windows 7 Home Premium, and Windows Vista SP2 Home Premium, and dang, I dont understand how anyone can think 7 looks like vista..and speed?..vista has sluggish reactions compared to 7..more jerky graphics as well..

Might be because 7 is a clean install. May also be your processor.

On my system , there is no noticeable difference in performance or speed between the two.

how come you are running windows 7 home premium? I thought all the leaked builds where ultimate?

You can unlock the Ultimate by removing one ei.cfg file from the resources folder in the iso image for seeing the option for Home Premium as well as Pro and Ultimate. If you are signed up Technet you could also download the Home Premium beta separately before the RCs came out.

The main problem right off however was activating anything but the Ultimate builds. Meanwhile I'm trying to upgrade Vista to 7 on the Virtual PC at the moment to see how that goes.

By the way it seems to be going well so far for the 32bit RC upgrade over the 32bit Home Premium Vista!

the newest 7 image asks what version to install..and since it is what I have purchased, its why i picked it...I was on vista, and found myself having to make it feel more like 7 lol..I did a clean install of vista..so that wasnt it..after about 4 hours I decided no more vista and deleted it, cleaned 2nd hard drive and added the space back to 7

7 is quite a bit lighter on resources as a rule while you are still able to tweak Vista quite a bit. One item is speeding up the shutdown time on XP and Vista as well as 7. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/717-shut-down-speed-up.html?filter[2]=Performance Maintenance

I had been quadruple booting XP, Vista, and both 7 betas at one time until no longer having any need for XP, creating a backup image of Vista to make room for the 32bit RC, running Vista on the Virtual PC, and now have that replaced with the 32bit RC there! Note this while being booted into the 64bit RC host.

If you really look closely you'll find there's a big difference in various ways while it also depends on what you have running on any version as far as overall performace and having adequate memory as well.

I also have a quadruple boot configuration, Vista X86 which is still my main OS, Vista X64 mainly for one game I do development for, Windows 7 RC X64 and Leopard 10.5.7.

There is only a small difference in performance tbh, in fact the reason why I have that second Vista partition is because the game I do development for (GTAIV) runs a lot faster on Vista then on Windows 7. It used to be the same, but since Win7 RC, there is no way I can get the same fps then under Vista, hence the reason I use that for the game.

The 7 build I am currently using is 16384, didn't install the latest.

Vista was/is a great OS, and yeah I will be replacing most of my machines with Windows 7, as I think the aero improvements make it worth my while.

That seems the exact opposite from the complaints always heard when comparing XP to Vista that Vista was the bloated OS! I didn't run the Vista RC1 long while the beta builds ran here until the RCs came out showing a large contrast.
