What drivers give you the error? All, or few?

~Lordbob

All.
That sucks.

Very strange.
And a clean install too..... wow.

EDIT: Just thought of this: Did you buy the laptop prebuilt? Perhaps the company signed their hardware so it would not work otherwise.

Any ideas why I'm missing Nvidia control panel after installing latest drivers for my 8600m GT?

I have no answer for you.
I wasn't looking for one, and stopped looking shortly after discovering Sony aren't renowned for driver updates, and also that finding I'd lost the use of S-Video if I used any other driver apart from the original Sony one, so I have used a modded inf ever since.

Thanks anyway.

Same thing here...Sony Vaio VGC-LT15E All in One. Came with Vista Home Premium x32. Just installed Win 7 Pro x64. None of the Sony drivers worked...have been using the latest manufacturer's drivers with modified .inf's. I'm down to just my flash media controller driver left...and I'm not super happy with my VCC6 webcam driver.

It has been a pain in the you know what but well worth it to get rid of Vista!!

I too have the VAIO VGC-LT15E. I upgraded to Windows 7 on Tues. It took 4 hours but after I was done, "everything" worked, even video. Yesterday I came home, turned on my computer, and the video was all messed up. I got the message that Windows had disabled my NVIDIA graphics card. I tried everything to get it to work, Sony provided no help, NVIDIA has a driver but it won't work with Sony VAIO. I can't wait to get home tonight so I can try this modified driver. I hope it works for me. The new INF is just out, todays date of 29 OCT.

Here's another interesting synopsis of a Win 7 install on a Sony. Although it was from the beta version and is 8 months old some of the device's are similar to the VGC-LT15E so the driver information might be helpful.

Did you install 32 or 64 bit? I'm still tweaking my install...haven't got my Flash Media controller working yet and still have one or two more drivers that I'd like to update.

To those who have successfully installed the driver:

I don't think I'm following the directions correctly from the first post. Do I need to:

1) Download the driver package from the NVIDIA site, unpack it and replace the INF from laptopvideo2go

or

2) Downloadn the package from laptopvideo2go , unpack it. Then download the inf file (also from laptopvideo2go ) and replace the inf on the unpack directory?

I have a vaio VGX-TP25E/B with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT graphics card, and I can't make the driver installed..

Thanks in advance!

Just to add some weight behind FZ21Z, this is definitely something that a lot of notebooks require to get drivers up and running. This however, is not the case with desktops. If you're having trouble with video drivers on your desktop this is simply a quick fix.

Notebooks that are shipped with advanced GPU's are generally modified so the installation of any new drivers is impossible without modifying the INF. I'm not entirely sure why notebook manufacturers do this as it makes no sense, but they do it anyway. That is the reason the website linked to in the original post was created and there are a few others as well out there. This is generally the only option available to notebook owners.

Desktops on the other hand fall under a different category. If you're having trouble installing drivers on a desktop, the issues aren't generally a simple modified INF and this route shouldn't be used unless all others have been taken.

Hy there,

It worked, thanks a lot. I have been working my a.. out for this driver and have tried several different sites/drivers which didn't work. Thanks to you now I am happy:D.

Cheers,
Vlad

I've started this thread because it seems a lot of people seem to be having issues installing NVIDIA drivers under Windows 7. I need to use the following method due to the following reason...

picture.php

If I go ahead and try to install the driver direct from NVIDIA without a modified INF, this is what I see...

picture.php

I have written this based on a fresh install of Windows 7, and can be applied to 32bit and 64bit systems.

Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

picture.php

The drivers.

The only site I use is laptopvideo2go.com, because they have a huge database of current and older drivers. You can download them from directly from NVIDIA if you wish, but I just find it easier to get them and the INF from the same place. What is most important however is the modified INF, because that is what will allow you to install the drivers.

picture.php

The guys at laptopvideo2go.com modify the INF file and make it available to download separately.

picture.php

The INF for this driver supports up to 209 models, so if your card is on the list, it should work on your system.

picture.php

1. Download and extract.

On this PAGE, you will find the latest drivers, as well as older versions so find the ones you want and "Download Driver", and you will also need to download the "INF Modified" to go with the driver...

picture.php

Click on the application...

picture.php

Extract to location of your choice...

picture.php

2. Copy and replace the INF.

Exactly that, copy the INF you downloaded in to the folder of the extracted driver, and replace the original.

picture.php

3.
Install and reboot.

Run the setup.exe in the folder you extracted, you may be prompted with the following...

picture.php

So click "Install this driver software anyway", and reboot when required, and Windows should then recognize your card as it should be.
