Obscure 124 error...

Hi SevenForums!

I'm having this reeeally annoying 124 error that won't go away, and I don't know what I should do!
When it happens, my computer either completely hangs, so that I have to press the reset button to reboot, OR everything hangs for a moment, then reboots automatically.
After the computer has finished rebooting, Windows tells me there was a "Hardware Error". Error code 124.

And what makes things worse(?) is that the problem occurs with very long intervals, so it's really hard to troubleshoot. Last time it happened was on 2011-01-08 01:24:29, according to the Event Viewer.

Everything in my computer (which I built myself) is new, except for one of my two hard-drives and my GFX-Card, but my friend (who had it before me) only used it once or so, because his PSU was too weak to run it.

Have you tried all these remedies? Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .. A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. I've attached the three last dump files if anyone wants to have a look.

I have not gone through all the steps in that link you posted, I'll take a look at it now.

About step 1 and 2 in the guide...
- How do I check if my stuff is overclocked?
- Is there a program that can log the temperatures in the computer into a txt file or something?

A couple of problems

1-sptd.sys a huge cause of BSOD's

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

You can use MagicDisc as an alternative.

In which dump file did you see "sptd.sys"? I couldn't find it :/

Alright, I've uninstalled that file now, so I guess I should just wait a couple of weeks to see if the problem is fixed right? (Like I said, there are usually long intervals between every "accident"...).
If the computer hangs again, then I'll go on to the next step in the guide!

Hi guys,

I removed 'sptd.sys' with the DuplexSecure program mentioned above, but I'm sad to say that my computer froze for me two days ago, while I was watching YouTube.
My computer didn't reboot (it froze completely), so I had to press the Reset-button, and because of that I didn't get a dump file.

Now, a question:
- Do you know if there's a program that can log the temperatures of my CPU and graphics card? I'd like to avoid running the computer with an open case, because I don't want to get dust on the components :/

Anyways, I'll have a look at the "Stop 0x124" guide and post here if I run into problems.
