I was given a Toshiba Satellite C665D. I tried running the recovery media creator but got a message that said No HDD recovery area. The Toshiba recovery media creator can not be launched. I contacted the previous owner and was told no recovery media was done for the notebook and he created a new partition as there was free space on the HDD which seems to have wiped the recovery partition I don't understand how as the recovery partition was hidden, I figured out how to unhide the partition and it shows the recovery folder but it is empty. What I would like to know is there any way to get the recovery partition back. Thanks.

In the alternative, many people elect to do a clean install of the operating system and eliminate all factory bloatware (trial programs, etc) that simply slows a computer down. This tutorial shows how you can obtain a legal Windows 7 installation disk (must be the same version originally installed on the computer) and then use the existing Product Key on the COA sticker affixed to the computer (usually on the underside or inside the battery compartment on a laptop) to reactivate with Microsoft.

Once you have the computer updated, install all programs, configure personalized settings, etc just make a system image. The system image will take the place of a recovery partition and instead of restoring the computer to factory specs you can restore it to the exact condition it was in at the time the system image was made. The more often you create a system image, the more current the restore will be.

Thanks for the advice. I had a look at buying the recovery media but after putting in the serial number I found out they are not available, will try contacting Toshiba, if I have no luck I will do a clean reinstall.

I did a clean install on my Sony Vaio and it improved performace by a whole bunch. If that's what you decide to do, many people on this Forum will be willing to help you. ;)
