Microsoft support for Office 2007 ends on 10/10/17. They say that new updates, bug fixes, and security patches will end on that date.

Will existing updates (published before October, 2017) still be available through Windows Update after support ends?

I need to reinstall Windows 7 and programs (Office 2007, etc.), but I may not have time to do that until late October -- which will be after support ends for Office 2007.

If I run Windows Update after my reinstall in late October, will it still generate old updates and patches for Office 2007? Or, will I have to search and download them manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog?

Thanks.

You will probably have to search & download them. However, you might still get them through Windows Updates, so you will have to give it a go & see.

Often Microsoft has end of support dates, but sometimes they do continue with some really important security ones.

Given past experience with Microsoft and their "end of support" of other programs, I would say that yes, they will be available for quite some time after that date. Of course Office will continue to work exactly as it does today, just new updates won't be released anymore (maybe except for exceptional cases, again Microsoft has done so too).

The definitive answer however is that only Microsoft itself can answer that. And they can change their answer at any time the feel like it. Previous updates may be available for some time, but that won't always be the case. Enjoy while it last, but don't expect it to be there forever.

My suggestion would be, if you really want those updates, use Windows Update to install them right now, but download them manually anyway. Backup them together with the full Office 2007 installer. That way, if you need to reinstall, you can always have the most recent version available, no matter what Microsoft does.

Hi,
Most of the security issues are with office outlook.
But some do apply to excel... when sharing them back and forth so it really depends on how you use office 2007.

Just because support ends all other released updates will still be available through the update system if one has to clean install after the date support ends.
