Old games have lag spikes

Hmm, I wonder if chip set can do that, are you sure they are installed- check c: intel look in it should be a folder that says chip set? maybe they need to be updated. Best I understand the chip set drivers make everything play nice with each other.

I would guess that lap top has least a 1 year manufacturers warranty- And or if nothing else you could call them or go to its web site and put in a support ticket and tell them the prob- it is their machine- they would be the best to know how to correct it or say it is bad and give you another machine.

You say the cpu dips to 0 when the lag starts- I wonder if the chip set or lack of or needs updating can do that- I would think heat or memory sharing. I dont know. I try and help as best I can tho- I have nothing but time, so..

Have you tried to google it- type in my so and so lap top lags playing games- or playing so and so game- see if you get any hits- You do not have to use google searching 1 word at a time you can also ask it questions etc..

What about energy saving settings- I turn that stuff off and set it for performance. As a fact I need to turn off all that junk in my bios- for sure if or when I go to over clocking- but I notice sometimes my monitor blinks lighter darker- It could be the lcd's on my mobo flickering too- But I think it is all the said energy saving junk- All I read it does very lil really other than make your system run iffy-

I do know I have to turn it all off when I go to over clocking- I do not know how to oc. I do read and I seen a video on youtube how to oc my p55 I5 750 on a like mobo- I am more waiting until I can get a better video card- which may be never- I see no point other than that- tho it is said with my cooler I could get around 4.2 thats not bad being stock is 2.66 a quad core too? Ya I think it would help some- but my systems hitch is my old video card..

I am afraid of the built in oc genie- I read it can set voltages way high versus doing it manually. But is said it can push it on up to 3.8 to 4. or so. It is said easy to get 3.6 to 3.8 manually. And I have 1 of the very few memory that can run at t1- AMD has never been able to run t1- I think most memory is all t2 now- intel can use t2 but amd can not use t1- so make all t2 now i guess just because of amd. I just need it to last so I am afraid more than anything..

I have a high performance ati graphics card and an intel integrated one, non make any difference into my lag problems. It's a compatibility issue and no one has an answer for it other than to update drivers, which I always do anyway, so I think it's unfixable. I miss XP...

Everything you said there was right. I miss xp too... I tried changing one thing tough; if you go to device manager and then display my Intel (R) HD graphics was set to balanced mode when plugged in. I switched it to maximum performance. I am EXTREMELY skeptical that this will do anything but I have yet to experience the lag spikes (though I only tested for about 5 minutes...). Good luck..

I also miss xp- My new system and extra memory and dx is cool and all- but w7 is more probs and glitchy than xp sp2 ever was. I like w7 ok- but loved and still would use xp now if they did not stop support for sp2- or if they added dx10-11 and ability to add more than 3.5 gigs of memory to 32 bit- I would take a loss for the price I gave for w7 and go back to xp..

All and all and for above reasons w7 is best I guess but only because ms wants to make money on this half assed stuff and gimped xp- I think they keep w7 gimped hoping we will rush out next year and buy the new said best thing w8 when it comes out- Well I will be in no hurry at all. Its comical w7 updates a few times a week and is still glitchy- xp updated once a month and was less head akes and everything worked, with good security and keep up with updates and after sp2 it was never as bad as some tried to say it was- mac or lenox fans that is.

It made me laugh how folks hated vista- spent all that money had to have new hardware to run it and it sucked- I know folks in business that spent a ton and was sick over it and vista, even micro soft business would not use vista and vista is ms- ha ha says a lot really.. Dell what ever went against ms and sold pc's that still used xp- sad. Some folks will swear both vista and w7 is the best thing since butter tho.. So what can ya say?

Ha ha I posted in the forums here a few days ago- I spent over 17 hours stayed at it until I figured it out- No 1 here could or tried to help- thats ok. But I installed my stalker soc game- it ran fine but I could not get the patches to install- patch 01 did install- but I needed patch 1.0005- I had some small fits did any and everything I could think of.. Searched the net and only 1 other person had same exact prob but never said if or how he fixed it- Finally I moved the patch from my c: drive to my e: storage drive it installed no prob- the most stupid junk I have ever had to deal with- Man w7 can be aggravating- So I can feel ya..

W7 has its good but not as good as xp sp2 imo.. Some games run a lil better for me in w7 but I have way more memory and now a quad core cpu too.. Things I could do with xp as far as video and stuff is more probs with w7 even with said programs said to work with w7.. But I keep at it and figure it out or work around's. Keep at it you might figure out your probs too.

Hmm Maybe you guys should post on the site where the units or mobo was made at- say dell or if the mobo is asus what ever- post there- It is their product and they might better be able to help you..

7 forums is a nice place and all- Maybe one of the best sites I have ever been too as far as nice folks and willing to help- but even here folks can only help but so much- You would maybe get better help at the sites where the products come from- for me it is a common sense thingy- Ya I might post here or a few other sites- After a while if I could get no answers- I would be at the product site and might even feel stupid if I got help in short order and I wasted all that time and being upset for so long.

7 forums is a os help site- it is not really a tech or repair site- It is other sites that are better at such things maybe- But I do think folks here would help if they could- I know general answers can get on your nerves- but to have folks not try and help at all hurts even more..

I am a big fan of seven forums- It is some really great folks here.. And they put up with my long posts too. I cant help it tho- I have lots to say or stuff on my mind maybe- But I do put all the info I can think of into 1 post- I like that versus 5 small posts or others posting between- My poor 2 finger typing skills or spelling or grammar can get on folks nerves I guess- I do as best I can for being stupid and retarded- is all I can say..

Seven forums is a great place- Folks here or even I would help or more if we could- Maybe step out and take some advice and check out the product site- maybe you can figure it out faster..

Thanks for trying at least. Xp was good, it could've been improved, not totally forgotten... acer support site wants 50 bucks for a question, and they would tell the same shit to update drivers and such... the lag spikes are for sure annoying but there not as bad as to make u not play the game... though I think if u spend money on a good computer with a new operating system u should be able to play 10 year old games if u want... I mean people are still playing DOS games, for crying out loud!
By the way alex what computer u have?

So it's not just a specific thing with Acer than. I'll maybe look around a bit more into this problem, seeing that I'm not the only one with the problem, though I really doubt anyone can find anything, its just a compatibility issue that u need to suck up, or install windows xp if u have the original disk and create a dual boot configuration, that would be the best alternative because then u could play any game.

Yeah, possible. I still haven't had any lag after I switched to maximum performance though. If I ever get windows xp on here I'll come back here and mention if the problems persist.

Have you guys tweaked out w7 for gaming? I mean turn off the areo glass and that type stuff- I use the basic to free up performance- I had read long ago areo in vista can cause probs- I think you find the options to turn it off under display- cant remember now.. You can type it into start search etc..

Also I do not install any programs to start on windows start up other than security- I do not use wmp so I do not have to worry about that on system start up- lil things like that can mean a lot- even with older games- odd maybe but true.. When gaming all extra stuff you can turn off messengers or even xfire etc causes some folks probs.

You might even want to disable monitor sleep- Tho games what ever or some media players say the monitor will not sleep or during full screen it still might do it- or be trying to do it tho the monitor is not turning off..

I never let windows put my system to sleep or anything like that- I will let it put my monitor to sleep if idel after 7 minutes it goes to screen saver then off 3 mins later 10 minutes total- If I had any probs I would turn it on off as needed before and after gaming- would be a pain in the neck maybe, but I do that stuff anyway- well all my security etc.. The only thing I never turn off is my firewall.

When I install programs or edit videos anything like that or play games. I first clear my chrome cache then ie8 cache- I always make it clear all passwords all of it. I never let my system store passwords its a security risk- then turn off all my security other than my firewall- I turn it all back on maybe reboot before surfing the net etc..When I do defrags I have all my security on.

Anytime I install new programs or games I clear all caches and then clean disc then defrag- I play 1 game at a time- if I go to playing a different game I do the same things as just typed- Some games or like playing steam games it will tell ya you should defrag etc. I always do that stuff- just sometimes I install a game and fire it up just to test it and set it up etc- but I always defrag and that good stuff before I really start playing it.. Lil things like this can help..

Some games you have the options to change the renderer- from d3ddrv or nullrender or opengl what ever it is- I think opengl is harder on a system if I remember right? You could maybe google such things..

It really makes me laugh- I read say comments at newegg- some guy just got a new rig says a quad or 6 core then says he is running virus scans running adobe premire editing videos and chatting on messanger all while playing crysis or something and has 1000fps bull crap. I think they are lying through their teeth.

Trips me out even with said super computers folks still can not max out crysis not with full aa and af anyway- or best I know or maybe they have some spider set up with 3 or 4 vid cards- I do not think they can even do it then- I say why bother.

Every video what ever I ever seen it was ugly and they was god like nothing could kill them tanks nothing??- I do not have either of them- might get them 1 day tho..

It is said not even government super computers can do it and for sure no pc or tech known to man can max out crysis 3 they said that them selves- said nothing can barely play it as a fact- ha ha they must make it at its lowest settings- its funny. So It will be ten years from now befor I even think of a crysis 3- not talking about 2 just out or out soon- I guess it is a monster too- I loved farcry and fc2- I know fc2 was not crytech- I wait for fc3 tho..

Crysis players end up working at Burger King to provide money for top spech computers. However, that being said, my computer has a decent graphics card and a really good system... if u can see the specs on my first post (or the link to them, anyway). I have Empire and Napoleon Total War, and I can run them on ultra settings. I really don't think that anything can slow my computer down, seeing I never multitask anyway, even background programs... i have 8gb of ram and it only uses 1.5 on idle, and only uses 1% cpu power. I don't think the lag spikes in older games really have anything to do with a slow computer, seeing all my newer games run great. It's just an unsolved compatibility issue. How did ur tests go alex?

I've been playing patrician for like 2 hours straight right now without a single lag spike. I may have solved my problem. You said you had an integrated intel graphics, and that you set your power settings to highest right away right? I know you probably did this already but could you double check that? Can you also tell me what your integrated graphics is called specifically? (e.g. my integrated graphics display is called Intel (HD) Integrated Graphics.

I installed yesterday and playing postal2 and aw and really awp- Got it all tweaked out ut03 04 style and had to tweak it to work with my wide screen- upped af to 8x looks and runs really nice- it is a flipping trip of a game- nasty and hard core really- some hot looking female bots too. Ha ha that game insults every 1- I love it. It is like me- not racist- it is an Equal Opportunity Offender- I will rip on any and every1 if I have to or if provoked.. I tell it like it is and I am not pc..

Makes me laugh when folks call me a racist- I am chrokee irish german- Both my wives was black and have mixed kids from my loins- and have a mixed asian child too- and have been with woman from all over this earth. Its comical really.

Postal2 awp is a hoot of a game- old most guns have no iron site or scope- but its tons of stuff to kill with or if that fails- you can wee wee on um or put your self out if on fire or others or what ever on fire- Then the bots have attitude and facial expressions- all talk crap- and its tons or different characters not just the few skins you see in most games. Offend cows cats and dogs elephants and some more chit- I love it.. Need some fish and some eagles to abuse and some more stuff.. Babies something space men gods what ever.. I chase and pick up all the cats I can- Ha ha..

The first time I seen the cat silencer I about wee wee on my self laughing so hard.. Hmm that is the most nasty smelling barrel I can guaranty ya that much.. nothing on earth smells any worst thats for sure.

I have fun not killing anything much or not even doing quests- I just look for stuff or secrete places or get on top of stuff looking for goodies walking on top of power lines etc- and just watching the bots- its a trip game..

Ha ha I see why it was ban in so many places- it should not be but was/is- sad really- guess some folks really miss out on a great game.. I love the rws gals that dance for ya when you win in ut04 too or if the servers are set up for it..

Same integrated graphics as u. I usually use my ati graphics card but i tried using the intel one, no difference.

Yeah, if you have your power settings set to max in the control panel intel (r) graphics option and it still lags I don't know..
