Online newspaper problem

I get an online foreign newspaper sent to me every day and I've been reading it for years. Now when it arrives I can't open any of the articles because a window pops up saying, The address is not valid. The address in question should read for example; www.nameofpaper.com/articles/view/20180436/world/north-korean-missile-blows-up-on-test-launch.645586
but instead it has the following before the WWW; C:\Users\myname\Desktop\/
If I copy the address into word and strip off C:\Users\myname\Desktop\/ then I can open the article, read it and comment on it but obviously it is a pain having to do that. I should also point out that the message box that pops up stating that the address is not valid is from Internet Explorer. I don't use Internet Explorer as a browser, I use Firefox.
Any idea what is going on here and how I can fix it?

Is the newspaper sent to you by email & then you access the site via the address included in the email, is that correct. If it wont open using that address, then it might be worth contacting the newspaper in question & getting their assistance.

Yeah I get an email with the days headlines in it and I click on any heading that I'm interested in reading. That always took me to the actual website where I could read and comment on the article in question. Now I get the error message and this strange prefix to the web address. I did contact the paper but they say the fault is at my end not theirs!

Instead of clicking on the link, right-click on it instead and select "copy link", then copy it into your address bar. Does it still append c:\User... before the www?

I don't have the Copy Link choice. I have Copy Shortcut or Save Target As. If I try Copy Shortcut go to my address bar and choose paste nothing happens. If I right click on Save Target As a window pops up which says, Security Alert. Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded.

try doing the same thing into a notepad window. The idea is to cut and paste the link somehow, just so we can see what it says.

Its pretty likely that the link in the article is correct, meaning this is not the fault of the newspaper. Which leaves your email client. Try forwarding the article to someone who does not use your computer and seeing if the link works for them, also try opening the email from another computer, then let us know how both work out, as well as let us know exactly how you read your email - like do you use a browser-based inbox with yahoo, or do you use a standalone client like outlook, and if so which exact version.

Gozoman. You mentioned in your first post that you were able to get to newspapers website for your article. Assuming that to do this your Firefox browser is now the application used. If this is the case, what happens if you save the website address as a bookmark in Firefox.

I'll try that and see what happens.

I read my email using Windows Live Mail, Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3528.0331)

Windows Live Mail might be the problem, as MS have been advising everyone to switch to Outlook.com & this MS blog might help you switch over.

Using Windows Live Mail 2012 with Outlook.com? Time to update your email application! - Office Blogs

Not in the least bit interested in switching to Outlook. If I ever switch to anything it will have nothing to do with Microsoft that's for sure. Live Mail is working perfectly so no reason to switch. They wanted everyone to switch to 10 as well and half the world wish they hadn't did that. When MS over something for free you know it's going to end up costing you in the end!
