'Open With' selecting program problem

Ok, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum, please correct me if not.

When I try to use 'Open With' on some files, and then press 'browse', and select a program, the window doesn't contain the program I just chose. For example, I'll right click on a FLV file, press open with, browse, select the wanted program (For example, 'FLV player'), and when the browse window closes the program I chose isn't there, just the programs windows offered me before. What do I do to fix this?

Perhaps it would help to start over by restoring the default file associations.

Did you select the FLV player executable?

I don't think it's about the file extensions themselves, and besides the ones I'm after happen to be FLV and .GP5 files.
And yes, I'm selecting the .exe file of the program.

I have exactly the same problem as original poster. Right click in Explorer... Open With... Browse... select an exe, then it kicks you back to the app list, and the exe you chose is not listed. Setting file associations through Folder Options works as expected.
