Hi There,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't to sure where would be best.

Anyway, I'm trying to install my collection of fonts that i use regularly. All the fonts are Opentype Fonts (.otf) which i know for a fact are working files as i use them on my other box which is running xp.

When i try either installing the fonts (right clicking and pressing install) or copy and pasting into the fonts directory i get a message which pops up and says that the file Cannot Install as the file does not appear to be a valid font.

I really hope windows 7 supports opentype fonts as i'd rather not go back to using xp.

Any help would be great.

Kind Regards
- Solly

Hmmm,

Followed his instructions and created the SessionImageSize file in the regedit, rebooted and still the same message.

One thing i did notice though, when i created that SessionImageSize thing and put 20 as the value. Once i closed it and reopened the file it had changed it self to 14?

Any ideas why that is happening ?

Now it's staying on 20 but its changing it self to hexadecimal rather than staying on decimal

Open the registry editor (regedit)

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

Add a new REG_DWORD entry called SessionImageSize with a value (decimal) of 20.
As long as you entered that as 20 Decimal you are ok. 14 in HEX = 20 in decimal.

I had this problem as well, the solution for me was to make the user a local admin. All of a sudden Windows 7 accepted the OTFs as valid fonts.

Yep, same with our system's here at work. A new employee in the graphics department was having issues installing fonts.. never said anything about rights or permissions, just that the font was invalid.

We bumped her up to admin and wallah! installed perfectly.

I do have a guide on how to allow them to install fonts without being local admin, it look a good 3 hours my first day at the new job to type up and make sure it worked.

I tried a very simple thing with the .otf font issue on Windows 7. I simply renamed the file from 'fontname.otf' to 'fontname.ttf' and re-installed it. And it works...
