Opera 11.0 Alpha out

I gave up on the alpha build earlier today. After deleting the web cache and cookies and all other stuff and starting Opera again, I found it painfully slow while caching any and all websites, from Hotmail to deviantART.

Gornot- I have always found Opera performance to be lackluster at its default settings, but by going to Menu> Settings> Preferences> Advanced> Network and ramping up the Max connections to server and Max total connections Opera will run up to 3X faster than it does at the default settings...

On my computer Bandwidth Meter Pro measured Opera's improvement from an original 11 Mbps at the default settings to 33 Mbps download speeds after this network settings optimization.

It's not much about automating the deletion of the cache as it is about actually caching webpages for the first time.

Installed 10.63 and performed the same way, worst of all, Opera's usage of Flash was hideously choppy, so I gave in. I might just wait for a stable build of 11 and try again.

I've run scores of different Opera builds from v9.5 on and I've never experienced any of these problems you are referring to, but then again I've got Opera set not to cache webpages because Opera 11 Alpha loads them almost instantly anyway and Flash has always been as smooth as silk.

Opera 11 Alpha runs Flash perfectly smoothly, even on my laptop with Linux.

I can remember installing and running Opera 10 Alpha just 90 minutes after its release and although many of the functions were as yet raw and quite undeveloped it did render pages very quickly after the Network Settings were optimized. As Opera Alpha releases go v11.00 has been created from past builds and runs very smoothly and functions quite well in comparison to the way Opera 10 Alpha ran. I hope that you have a sensational Windows 7 reinstall!

I installed 10.63 just to try it out, and changing Network Settings did (almost) nothing. Although it did load pages somewhat faster, its usage of Flash was way below what I have been experiencing with other browsers. An an example, I would like to post a link to an online game (single player mode) that heavily depends on Flash. Playing through is incredibly annoying, as I can see that it's very choppy (idk, as if it can't achieve max FPS).

Gornot- I can't speak for the highly subjective 'feel' of Opera's online game performance, but I have measured the download bandwidth using of the optimized Opera browser against the download speed of the Firefox browser as a reference using the Bandwidth Meter Pro on broadband Internet with very consistent results. At the default settings Opera's measured download bandwidth are very much the same as Firefox, but once Opera has been optimized Opera its peak download bandwidth soars to the maximum capacity of the broadband connection and very nearly cuts the download times for these actual 64-80 Mb downloads from the Internet in half...

Where this bandwidth measurement represents the average speed of the on line environment in which both browsers were tested as measured by the broadband provider...

Downloading speed does little for me, I have a 1024/128 kb/s cap.
The subjective "feel" differs only in Opera... all other browsers perform more or less exactly the same.
I would be a bother to use another browser just for the occasional jam. Thanks for all your info, but I think I'll just stick to Chrome for now :/

RLZ-Tracking

This Chrome-function transmits information in encoded form to Google, for example, when and where Chrome has been downloaded.

Google Updater

Chrome installs a updater, which loads at every Windows in background.

URL-Tracker

Calls depending on the configuration five seconds after launch the Google homepage opens in background.

I've never noticed any benefit changing the number of connections in Opera under Windows 7 .
My Internet connection is only 10 MB & depending on the site often download at 10 MB
Obviously as your connection speed increases there will be a point where you do see a benefit by increasing the number of connections.

Stve- I've used Bandwidth Meter Pro on hundreds of different Opera Downloads and increasing the number of connections in Opera has always shown to double Opera's download speed (bandwidth) and cut download time in 1/2 compared to its 'out of the box' settings. I couldn't really say if the bandwidth of the connection directly determines the effectiveness of increasing the number of connections Opera or not because Comcast Broadband is very consistent and always has speeds of 32 Mbps- 34 Mbps although I have measured Opera at 36.4 Mbps which is only .6 Mbps under the maximum 37 Mbps bandwidth of my Motorola SB501 modem.

Well once you can saturate your connection utilizing all available bandwidth without increasing connections its a waste of time trying to download faster.
I remember increasing connections on Win 98 & maybe XP ? but when Vista came out the advice was you don't need too just leave them alone, of course speeds have rocketed since then.
Don't expect increasing connections to help the majority of Internet users who are stuck with speeds below 10 MB you are one of the lucky one's with a 36 MB connection.

Well optimizing the number of connections in Opera yielded great results on both my Vista Laptop (3,689 Peacekeeper Bench) and Win 7 Desktop (11,220 Peacekeeeper Bench) computers as on these 12 consecutive 64-80 Mb downloads of pictures I have posted online...

Unfortunately I can't be sure whether your bandwidth theory is correct or not because I can't test it at low bandwidths, nevertheless there are now 27 countries where average Internet download speeds are faster than in the United States so there are plenty of Opera users whom I am sure can benefit from optimizing Operas Network settings and double its default download speed...

The thing I've always liked about Opera was that the developers had the wisdom to put the network optimization tools right in the browser...

Conveniently located, easy to use and these settings have always made every version of Opera that I've run download twice as fast as it did at the Default settings even Opera 10.6 on my Vista laptop which has a Peacekeeper Benchmark of 3689 regularly achieved measured internet speeds of over 33 Mbps after using Opera's onboard network optimization feature...

When Opera 11 Alpha 2 was released it became evident that in order to conveniently upgrade I needed to find out what was preventing me from installing Alpha 1 and having to run the uninstalled .exe. After trying a few solutions I found out that the problem was that I have Opera .exe listed as a forced program in Sandboxie and it was Sandboxie which was dropping the Opera installer's rights and preventing the Opera installer from installing Opera and I was getting the message below...

So I now that I know to lift that rule in Sandboxie while the Opera installer is working I have Opera 11 Alpha 2 installed and ready for the next snapshot!

I am at a crossroads now, because after the yesterday's reinstall of Win7, I decided to stick with IE9, which works faster and better than ever.
However, the situation with Flash usage in Opera I was "complaining" about ended in an unexpected way: The game I've been playing for over a year is no longer free, so I don't play anymore, which means that I might just as well install Opera11. But now I like IE9 and got used to it, lol. A fresh install of Windows means that, at least for a while, I have no need to poke around the registry and Ccleaner and all that stuff...
Unless I install Revo uninstaller, which can do the work for me when uninstalling apps, even if I decide to install Opera...

Bah, I am babbling, don't mind me xD
