I've been searching for a solution for this problem for a while now but all fixes does not work for me. I have a lenovo USB optical drive (cd/dvd) and it cant read my burnt disc. Im currently running windows 7 but when i tried to insert the disc in a windows xp computer using the same optical drive..it can read my cd. same problem i encountered when i tried to insert it in a computer running vista, it can't read my disc as well and it's a newly installed one. so i've ruled out that the problem is neither the optical drive because i've used it installing vista, or my cd because it's working fine in xp. i've also tried these solutions:

- deleting upper/lower filter in registry and unistalling the driver in device manager
- download updated driver
- i even tried downloading and running the fix suggeested in microsoft, doesnt work as well
- also tried disabling uac (someone suggested that)
- change the drive letter path of the optical drive
- and everything else that all the forums suggested, it just seems to many to mention

this problem is a known windows 7/ vista issue and i think it does not concern what hardware i used because i've tried it as well in other units and i still encounter the same problem but not in xp so i won't be giving the specs of my hardware anymore. regardless also if it's ide or sata, my optical drive is usb by the way. and here's the thing..it can read other discs when i'm in the windows 7, just this particular disc, the one that i burned. and as i've said..i can read that disc when i'm in an xp environment using the same optical drive. I'm totally bump! so basically the drive is detected in device manager and my computer. it just wont read this one cd! it can't be access in the command prompt as well.

ANYONE? appreciate the help..thanks!

I have this problem as well with my internal optical drive, and I think you are right when you say it is a windows 7 issue. I personally think it is my drive being too old for windows 7, how old is this USB drive?

actually it's not that old..2 years i think. i'm not sure if the reason for this is because the drive is too old. i've been to other forums that has the same problem, and some of them actually uses new optical drives but still this problem occurs.

i think that there is something to be edited in the registry other than the upper/lower filters. i also think that its not a third party software that's causing this problem because i've tried reading the cd on a newly installed vista, it has no antivirus yet or whatsover that the others think that could have caused the issue, i still have the same problem.

and also..the weird thing is, the cd that i cant read in a windows 7/ vista os..it is burned in a windows 7 computer so i'm not sure if there's an issue there regarding the file system..and when i tried reading it again on the same unit, it wont read the cd but when i inserted the optical drive and the same cd in a windows xp unit..i can read the cd. really weird..:sarc:

Question: Can you insert the cd and go to Windows Explorer and see the files on the cd. What type of cd is it, data or audio. I don't think it's an OS problem as i have both os's on two different comp's with 6 year old hardware and they read anything i throw at them.

thanks for the reply. it's a data cd. and no, i can't see the files in windows explorer. but the optical drive is detected. and it can see my other cds, like my vista installer. but the weird thing is when i inserted it again on a unit running windows xp, it can read my data cd which means that my cd is ok. this is the first time that i encountered this..and its really weird. got any idea?
