Os on new Laptop

hello i just bought new laptop
DELL STUDIO 1555
Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor P8600 2.4GHz ,1066MHz FSB 3MB L2 Cache
4GB DDR2 800MHz dual channel MemoryATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512MB500GB Hard Drive Serial ATA 5400RPM and now i'm trying to decide which os to install
1.WIN7 RC 32Bit
2.WIN7 RC 64Bit
3.WIN XP 64Bit

the 64 bit windows will recognize the 4 GB og ram but XP will not use the dual core while win7 64 as i heard is very unstable and have limited time like as win7 32 but on the other hand they both use the dual core

can anyone advise me which one to choose?

I'd definitely go with the Windows 7x64bit version... If this was a new purchace, you should have received a free upgrade coupon ... If you have any problems, dont be afraid to ask..

Your computer has the cpu, ram, and video to run win 7. If there isn't a reason for running XP forget about it. Now 32 or 64? Both have pro's and con's.

32-- only about 3.3 gigs of ram. easier to obtain drivers, runs cooler. Its not as fast as 64 for some things.

To make your choice we would need to know how you use it. Do you game, do video editing, run bleeding edge apps.

ok first of all this forum is great i wasn't expected to such fast replies so thank you
i'm a student and i will use this laptop to internet,music,games and programing so no hard job for the computer.

now i am trying to understand which version to download because from microsoft there is now downloads anymore and i found out and get confused about the RC,ultimate,RTM versions of x64 and what is the size of the windows x64 cd because i dowloaded the rc of x32 and its a 700mb cd but now i find versions of x64 the is 3 gb is it wrong?

The standard x86 size is 2.3 GB while the x64 is 3GB. All versions of seven, unless accquired thru Technet subscription, is Ultimate. I may be able to PM you a link to the RC but you would have to bear with my 2 minutes

and there are very noticble differnces in performance bitween x32 and x64 or can i live with that because i a little bit scared about the x64(due to errors and drivers issues)?

wtf i downloaded Windows 7 Ultimate x64 RC Build 7100 and its a rar file and when i extract him its giving me onle README file the is written
"This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."

what is it?

you need a burning app that can make a bootable dvd like IMGburn, PowerISO, UltraISO, or alcohol120%. Once you have the app take the ISO (not the files and folders) and burn the ISO

Be sure that when you burn the ISO, you select DISK IMAGE, not data disk..

You have a 500 gb hdd right? If you have Vista on it, you can extract the files to the desktop, and still do a clean install. You just have to delete a folder called windows.old when you have finished the install (If you want to, its optional, but it does take some disc space). There all the things from your previous install will be. all photos, music video etc. So now you can just transfer them to the new install, and then delete the windows.old folder

You could also extract the files to a seperate partition and run the setup.exe from there... When the installation is finished, you will find a windows.old folder where your files from the previous install are kept... copy the files you need and then delete windows.old.... Either method will do the job...
