Outlook 2007 and Win 7

Hi again Clunkfish, (Where did that name come from - I feel I should know!)
Right - have it:
This is the one that I sent at 15:30 or thereabouts:
Store File Name: Outlook.pst
Date|Time|Action|Search Owner|NID|Change Action|Change Semantics|URL|Count Of DocIDs|Next NID Index to add to All Msg folder|Next NID Index to push to FTE|Folder Path|Folder Path ID|HRESULT|Result Status
2010/01/26|17:30:35:293|Doc Not Found|6|1502|||||||||0x8004010f|FAIL

What do you make of that?

This is what I got sending successfully from 1 account to another at 20:52:

Does it help?

Just to confirm 17:24; 17:31; 21:00 - all fail to 2 addresses whilst 20:54 went through between 2 of my accounts

Well I'm stumped, as a google search of the error code just refer to Exchange Server, which I don't think you've mentioned, so I haven't got a clue, sorry.

That isn't your log file - it's a text file called Outlook.pst. You should see OPMLog plus a number of other files beginning IMAP or POP, depending on what sort of mail server your account is with....

I wonder if it would help if I deleted (temporarily) 2 accounts from Outlook and see what happens from just one account?

Too late! Mwa-ha-ha-ha....

Only kidding. OK so your smtp server is smtp.sapo.pt - is that correct? It's in Portugal...and you're not  ?

If it's the right server, it needs to be set up carefully as it requires authentication. The following site gives the details: Ajuda SAPO - Configuração do Mail POP3 (Outlook/Eudora)
Basically you need to go into Tools > Account Settings, then highlight the email account you want to work with and click "Change...", then "More Settings...", then the Outgoing Server tab, then check the box to say your outgoing server requires authentication. Set it to use the same settings as your incoming mail server. Could you check how all that is set up then report back please?

It's -2C here - bet it's warmer in the Algarve :D

Wimborne - birthplace of Robert Fripp. I like his stuff!

I think maybe we're going to have to go back to square one - uninstall Outlook, then reinstall but only set up one email account, and make sure it sends/receives OK. Then add a second, check both, and so on. Sorry not to be able to find a genuine solution :(

Back to the drawing board!

Hi Clunkfish,
Tried the Microsoft procedure but it is not ideal for Win 7. I went through it to Section 1 (5) and deleted all but one .msi files and this left just the one big one for MS Office (12,700 kb) but this one would not uninstall. Went to control panel and tried to uninstall but strange message about language not being supported. In desperation used installation disk in the hope that I could select uninstall but no, only "install" option present so I go for that, then SP 2 (another hour). Boot up again and first message fails with changed account. Try again with second and third accounts disabled and it still fails and still changes account.
Do I really have to do System Recovery back to XP and then update to Win 7 all over again? I don't have any other ideas left but it is very disruptive having to do everything from an oldish XP laptop:cry:

New clean Win 7 installation and now random failures to send emails.
update to Win 7 all over again?
I thought that the "new clean" installation meant it was not an upgrade-in-place from XP, but now it appears that that is what you have done?

A clean install of Windows 7, including formatting drive C: as part of it, followed by installation of Office 2007, ought to solve all your problems.

I know you know this, but it never hurts to emphasise it: make sure to take backups first, and note down all your Outlook settings ready for the new installation.

I am not sure if I understand the point you are making but what I have is a "Windows 7 Upgrade" (in my case from WinXP SP2).
I believe that if I had previously had Vista this would be a true "Upgrade" but with Win XP it requires a "Clean Install" and the process that it carries out, does format the hard drive but saves settings on an auxiliary drive to feed back (with "Easy Transfer") into Win 7 after it is all loaded. Quote:
"To upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7, you'll need to select the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. A custom installation doesn't preserve your programs, files, or settings. It's sometimes called a "clean" installation for that reason."
When running the evaluation programme prior to buying, it stated that it would, in my case require a "Clean Install".
Am I missing something really fundamental here?
If I am on the correct lines, I will have to use the recovery programme on a separate partition of my hard drive, to get me back to Win XP and then do the conversion to Win 7 as I did last time.
Just a thought: - "Easy Transfer" did make things considerably easier but can it be relied upon to transfer programmes without errors?

Once again we are nearing the boundaries of my knowledge, which is a pretty small island. I believe that there are frequently problems with injecting previous Outlook .pst files into a new install, so unless someone with more expert info can recommend a different course, I would suggest doing an Outlook export of all your personal folders and email messages to a memory stick or whatever, reinstalling Office 2007, re-importing the personal folder and email data into a brand new profile, then setting up the email accounts manually. I am thinking that whatever gremlin is in your Outlook files is simply being reinstalled every time, but if you set up a fresh profile and do a proper export/import it should not get through...no guarantees I'm afraid, but that's my best shot.

Hi Clunkfish,
I think I might be on to something. I was persuaded not to rush into a complete new clean re-install by a friend whilst he had a look at it. I was twiddling my thumbs and went to: Tools/Options/Email Options/Advanced Email Options and tried various things before un-checking "Automatic Name Checking". The first email I tried (to a previous failure) went through without a problem.
If and I mean IF, I have found the gremlin, what is this feature meant to check and why did it allow some through and not others (all in my address book)?
What corrupted it because it is checked on my laptop and works fine?:geek::huh:

Too early to be confident but promising.

Fingers crossed! I wonder if there is a corrupted entry in the address book that is fouling things up when Outlook does the lookup?
