Solved Outlook 2010 always freezing

My Outlook 2010 client is always freezing! Why is it doing this? Is there a solution?

Hi Codyw, which Anti-virus are you using?

Some AV's, like for example Norton, can have a severe impact on the performance of Outlook.

I used to use Norton and I now hate it! It infected my machine with 100+ pieces of spyware. I currently have Kaspersky PURE on my host machine and Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security on my virtual machine.

I will look at the attached article and see what I can come up with.

As an experiment,
disable/exit from Kaspersky and TrendMicro.

Problem gone?

Hmm if it's the pdf problem remove Adobe reader and get Sumatra PDF

Not sure if I mentioned this or not - but this freezing of Outlook started after the spyware hit. The machine has been wiped a few times since then though...

I'm not suggesting to use no protection.

What will help is if you would temporarily disable Kaspersky and TrendMicro and see if then the freezing goes away.

I agree with Karlsnooks.

As I said in my previous post, anti-virus products scanning outgoing mail can sometimes cause problems like the one which you are experiencing. At least it can be eliminated if the still issue still remains whilst the AV is temporarily disabled.

I actually think I may have found the problem...Kaspersky's Anti-Spam add-in. When I started up my Outlook client last night it said that there was a serious problem with the add-in and that it should be disabled. Now that it's disabled I don't see too much freezing. What aggravates me about it is when I had Outlook 2007 it never froze and I also paid for the anti-spam filtering that now I can't use.

At least you believe that you have found the root of the problem.

Have you tried the Kaspersky support for the problem? Could be that they are aware of it and have a resolution...

I will probably have to call them during normal business hours. The link you provided me is for 2007 which is on my virtual machine and seems to work fine with Trend Micro. I have 2010 on my host machine.

Hopefully there is a resolution though...

UPDATE: It has been a few days without the Kaspersky Anti-Spam add-in. Every time I would try and enable the add-in and restart Outlook 2010, Outlook would crash during startup. I contacted Kaspersky support and they ran some tests on reports that I generated for them but still didn't get the answer. Then today, I had a thought - what if I uninstall Office 2010 and reinstall it. So I went into the control panel in Windows, and went down to Office 2010 Professional Plus, and I saw a button that said "Change". Instead of clicking Uninstall, I clicked Change and saw a number of options. One option that popped out at me was "Repair Office 2010". I selected that and let it run through all its stuff. After it was done, it asked me to reboot the system. After the system rebooted, I launched Outlook 2010 and it worked! Kaspersky Anti-Spam add-in was working as it was supposed to be. I never gave it much thought to repair office but now that I know that I can do that, that will be the first option on the top of my list!
