Can you over clock this CPU? AMD Athlon II X2
It currently runs at 2.7GHz
Thanks :)

Yes you can, but not in your case. Unfortunately for you yours in a HP computer (would be the same if it was a Dell, etc), and HP and just about any other off-the-shelf computer manufacturer locks the bios so that the features/settings that allow for overclocking are inaccessible.

I believe there are program to accomplish overclocking as well. I'm not any help with the programs part of it as I have it easy (bios overclocking) but its something that should be looked into. :)

To the original poster, it would help if you posted what Athlon II X2 you have. For example there are Athlon II X2 240's, 245's, and so on. (I have the 240)

You could use softFSB or something similar. This would require a supported clock generator on your motherboard. You would have to open the case and find the chip on your board and verify the model number for the clock generator. google how to do this if you dont know what i mean.

You're in the same boat as the OP. Short of a new motherboard, no as Gateway locks their bios as well.

Like i said. I have overclocked many of OEM machines this way. Just because the motherboards bios is no help doesnt mean it isnt using a chipset/clock generator that is farely common. Chances are high that if this machine is not brand new it will be supported.
