overclock displayed?

hi i have just re set my scan overclock when i view my system info it does not show, should i be able to see that it is running at say 3.8ghz and not 2.8ghz?

What you're looking for is cpu-z. CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting If you're looking for Windows to report the OC correctly and display it somewhere, forget it.

modern intel chips have a technology known as EIST - normally shortened to 'speedstep' - which basically slows the chip down when it isn't being used heavily. this also cranks down the voltage, thus saving power and reducing heat buildup. this is a Good Thing.

if you try starting a program which uses the processor (eg a virus scan), you should notice that your processor will then start running at its top speed.

so, try running a virus scan and check cpu-z again - it should then report your overclocked speed.

Yeah as Micky says , run a program that uses your cpu to the full then you will see cpuz change to the full clock speed.

You could download prime95 and run that (us overclockers use it to test stability and temps) it will max your cpu to 100% while running.

BTW I'm runnig at 3.8, but my properties page (system info) shows 3.06, that's because EIST (speedstep) is enabled.

I assumed you meant in the "system" in "control panel"....which I also assumed you had looked at.

Yeah EIST can only be enabled/disabled in the BIOS.

At any rate the reason you're probably not seeing your overclock speed is because EIST is enabled in the BIOS.
