Ownership issues, restricted access and pure frustration.

Hello, so I'm currently writing on a laptop which is owned by a company. It's my dad's laptop and he asked me to install certain programs he needs for his work which are on multiple CDs.

Even before he asked me I tried installing an antivirus and I couldn't because the access was denied. I let that go in a hope that they have done that with a reason, a really retarded reason (imo).

I have no access to the registry, cannot install takeownership, cannot install anything that could possibly help me. I have no access to the administrator folder. Now, when I try to disable the built in admin acc it says access denied. I cannot even add a new user. ACCESS DENIED. The one I'm currently signed on is a built in admin account.

When I turn on the laptop I have to use ctrl alt del and enter my password to sign in. There are two icons upon signing in: a) HAK/user.name b)Guest

Now, does anyone have a solution? Just don't tell me to install something because I cannot run anything as an administrator.

Also.. please don't tell me to reinstall Windows 7 because the laptop is not mine and I don't want to test out things that could make it even worse.

You'll probably have to get the I.T. department of your Fathers business to install any third party programs.

Welcome to the forums btw!

Any company-owned machines are locked down like this. The only ones that can install stuff on them is the company's IT staff (and for a good reason, like corporate espionage and to make sure that it will work fine 99% of the times, when you leave a PC in the hands of a less-tech-savy person it usually lasts around a year before it's so unstable that only a win7 reinstall can bring it back to working condition).

Sorry, but there is no other solution than telling this to your dad. :(

EDIT: the IT department can log in as a true Administrator account. You and your dad don't know the password for it.

Was discarded by previous owner due to "horrible performance".
Was running Win Xp from a IDE drive. Yeah. Was a pain.
SATA II drive and Win7 and it zips away! Yay!
Then where's the damn logic, are they that dumb to send my dad the cd's which he obviously cannot install?
Ugh, there must be a way but I'll tell my dad.

Edit: Of course we don't know, it's can be aquired somehow..

Probably they didn't send the CDs, it was someone in the management that knows nothing of IT. It's not uncommon for a company to do these screwups.

I know what you want to do now :p, but cracking passwords on computers you don't own is illegal.
And cracking passwords in general is a very suspicious activity that none will help you to to on this forum.
It is also dangerous, especially if the drive is encrypted (company stuff usually is). You may end up with a dead laptop, or worse, leave traces of tampering (like say installing stuff that they know none of their staff did install, there are registries of this in most departments) and put your dad in trouble when the IT department finds out.

I would call the IT dept now and ask for their help loading these programs which the company provided. They may connect to help you, or give the exact instructions needed for installing them. You will know what must be done by the end of the call, and be doing things correctly without putting your Dad in jeopardy.
