parental control access problem

Hi,

I've activated the parental control program for scheduling time for my kids to be on the computer. Last night when I tried to access the program to change their access times it would not respond. I could access user user accounts and other settings on the computer, but not the parental controls. There were no error messages, just a quick flash of the opening icon and it stopped. Any suggestions as to what went wrong and how to fix it would be appreciated!! Thanks

Try to boot the computer. If that does not work try this

Type cmd in search, do not hit enter>right click run as administrator.

In cmd type sfc /scannow. Run 3 times if errors are found.

Hi Richc46,

Thanks for the help, but I tried it and the scan got to 18% completion and stopped. Got message: Windows Resource Protection could not performthe requested operation.

also, now I cannot acces other Users accounts. Earlier this morn I had a bunch of hotmail messages addressed for the same person. Thought I might have become the victim of some malware, so I scanned for viruses using Mcafee, but nothing came up. Scanned with Spy Bot and it found some malware and I had them removed.

Still cannot access parental controls! Help!

Hi,

I do not think so. I did notice one thing in the control panel-everything I cannot acces has a blue and gold checked shield next to it, but the items I can access (e.g. change my password) do not have this shield. Is this some anti-virus protection program icon?

Look at this. If the pic at the upper left is the shield that you see, you may want to give this a try.

Always, always, but always, start with a system restore point, in the case of unexpected difficulties.

Security Properties Tab - Restore or Remove - Vista Forums
Same in Windows 7

If none of the above, plus the repair install work, try a system restore that will bring you back to good times.

Can you run anything at an elevated admin level?

Try and see -
START | eventvwr.msc

START | services.msc

RIGHT-click on IE8 icon, slect "Run as Administrator"
