Hi,

I want to delete a small partition (100 mb) without a name... I tried to format it by name it Z: but when i tried to format it in the command prompt when i boot on the Windows 7 dvd, the name was X: and the name of this partition was Boot... I have Windows 7 installed on the C: so why I have a boot partition without a name?

This is on my laptop.. On my desktop computer, i haven't a little partition like that... Where's the problem ? I can't format it...

My OS is installed in french so sorry for the language...

I look like it the main partition... But when i opened in this drive in my computer, i didn't see any file. When i boot on the Win7 dvd and i open the command prompt, i make the "dir" command and i see an install of Windows... I can't delete anything...

Any help ?

It's your boot partition, it's only 100mb of space, just leave it there and don't try to name it.

If you do manage to delete it your computer won't start anymore.

You didn't say WHY you want to delete that partition. If it's because you already have 4 primary partitions on your drive and you want to remove one to make room for adding a different one, then download and install EasyBCD from NeoSmart Technologies. They have a feature that will allow you to MOVE the Win7 boot loader files from that partition into your OS partition.

However, that only then frees up 100MB -- which is not large enough to use for another OS.

That partition is the Boot partition, if it has a problem your computer won't even start.
It's not causing the freeze issue.

Look in your event viewer and see if you can find a cause from there.

Open Event Viewer

Describe the freeze, when it happens, is it random?
When you open certain programs, when gaming, at startup?
What does it do?
Does it recover itself or do you have to reset?

It happen often at startup... 2-3 freeze issue... after, when the computer is more hot, the freeze issue seems to be less present... but still there.

Since 2 days, i put the laptop in Energy Conservation mode and he didn't freeze yet...

I bought a new baterie but it didn't help. When I use the 120V from the wall, it wasn't better...

Can I have a problem with the graphic card because the Energy Conservation mode cut the graphic detail... ? (I didn't try game because i'm not a player... When i watch full HD video from youtube, i don't have any problem...)

What is the laptop brand and model?

It will help to get more specs on it.

Try updating your drivers from the OEM website.

Just check the dates of your current drivers and look for newer dates on the drivers at the OEM support website.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Laptops are tightly packed and overheating is a common issue. Make sure the intake and exhaust vents at the bottom and back are open. They can get blocked if you use the laptop on a bed or if lint and debris builds up over a period of time.

Easiest way is to use the laptop inclined at an angle e.g., by placing a book below the rear of the laptop, so theres space between the table surface and the laptop bottom. More technical solutions like coolpads are also available.

You can monitor temperatures using any of the free programs available such as speedfan. Let us know what temps the machine reports, if speedfan detects your fans you can even crank up fan speed.

I got a Acer Aspire 5630. I used Windows 7 64 bit... This laptop is not build for Win7 but it work. Note that the freezing use was happening with XP too.

The drivers are all updated

The intake and the exhaust are open. I clean it last week. I should try with a book under the laptop.

I already check the temperature and the freezing issue happen either on a cold start.

The temperature is around 40 and 60 degrees celcius.

I can't control the fan with software like speedfan.

I bought a new batterie. I try to remove 1 memory stick and to switch the other to see if there's no problem with them.

I had defrag. I had format. I repair Windows. I tried a lot of thing :P

The freezing are really random.

Did you burn it to a CD/DVD or running it from a memory stick?

If you're using a DVD try burning it with a different burning program.

I would recommend the memory stick method.

If it starts and shows you the interface and doesn't run, try the memory stick.

If it's the same result, then you have a RAM problem.

Try the memory stick to rule out a problem with your CD drive.

I got the same error... :(

Is there any alternative ? I'll try the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool in Windows 7...

The freezing issue had restart...

Take one RAM card out and try the test with one in at a time, if it runs let it finish.

If it starts to get errors let us know how many, a couple, 10, 100, 1000 etc. and you can stop the test.

Then run the other Ram card in the other slot, same as above.

Let us know if that works.

I tried one at a time and i got the same error with Memtest86+...

With one of the 2 sticks, in the top slot, i can't even boot on the Memtest86+ cd... But I can with the other one...

When I tried Windows Diagnostic Memory Tool, it said : Restart now to test the memory. Each time I click on this, the computer restart without doing the test... When I click on : Do the test on the next restart, I restart the computer and the test doesn't start...

I also tried to remove the wifi card and to boot without it... It freeze on the first boot...

Any idea ?
