Partition problem

Hi i have some 63gb of unallocated space for which i want to have a partition . But while creating the partiton i am getting the error

"The operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk to dynamic disk,if you convert the disk to dynamic you will not be able to start installed OS from any volume(expect the current boot volume)"

How can i use that unallocated space now? . please guide me

You can only have 4 primary partitions. You already have 4.

Do you really need more than 4? You might be better off to just use a folder structure in an existing partition, rather than another partition.

If you insist on more than 4, you would have to make an "extended partition" and then put "logical partitions" inside the extended partition.

I haven't done it in a while, so can't point you to the directions quickly, but it's doable. You can have many partitions INSIDE an extended partition.

There might be a tutorial on this site.

Whatever you do, DON'T say yes to dynamic partitions.

Its not neccessary for me to have another partition. Is there anyway i can move this unallocated space to one of my exisiting partitions?

Yes.

You can use Partition Wizard to add that space to any other partition.

You could also use it to grab that very small 100 mb unallocated at the beginning of the drive.

If you want to add the large unallocated space to D, you can do that with Windows Disk Management, using a right click on D. Look for "extend volume" I think. If you want to add it to some other partition, you must use Partition Wizard.

If you want to add the small 100 mb space to any partition, you must use Partition Wizard.

Just going by my memory you can go into Disk management and right tick on the un-allocated partitions and delete them. I'm think that space will then become part of a existing partition next to it.

Yep the Mini tool does wonders. I keep it on both computers and burned to a DVD just in case.

I never worry about partitions COZ i've got a W7 disc just go reinstall system hey ho 1 partition.
