Partition Status Question

Hi All,

Terrified though I was, I used a partition program to make a small partition
in a very large primary drive (580GB) so I could put one of my Linux distros
there permanently. Unfortunately, it boots to a black screen when I select it.

It does show both Windows 7 and Linux in the boot screen, but only Windows works.

I'm afraid I didn't create the partition correctly.

Here's the info:

Toshiba Satellite P775-S7360 Laptop
HDD abt. 580 Gigs
Running Windows 7 (64-bit)

Partition:

Disk: F: Linux
File System: NTFS
Capacity: 14.42 GB
Used: 108.44 MB
Unused: 14.32 GB
Status: None
Type: Logical

I have (status) System, Hidden and Primary partition(s) besides the one described.

Can anyone out there tell me what went wrong? Is (status: none) my problem? Does it also need to be a primary, system, etc.?

I appreciate the help. I'm a compltete newbie when it comes to partitioning a drive.

Hi,

Are you sure that is correct? Linux isn't installed to an NTFS formatted partition - did you use WUBI by any chance?

Sorry. I should have been more clear. I simply named the partition "Linux" as that is where I wanted to install it. What should I have formatted it to to accept a Linux distro? Also, should it be a primary?

Okay, found out through some reading that it should be an Ex2 or Ext3, so I repartitioned it for Ext3. It does not have a drive letter, however, only an asterisk.

Is this normal?

How will Linux know to install into this partition?

Sorry, I realize these all must be basic questions, but this is my first time partitioning a drive AND using a Linux product.

I'm at the point of partitioning my drive. Haven't tried to install Linux yet.
