Partitions, volume and HDD Recovery Files

Hi there, hopefully someone will be able to help.

I just got a new Toshiba laptop (Windows 7, 64-bit Home Premium), and the hard disk is split into two sections Windows (C) which has 148GB of space, and Data (D) which has the same. Now, this is far from ideal, as I want to have all the hard drive space available on one partition.

On Data (D) there is HDDRecovery Files and a R14477EN.tag file. I'm aware they're important and I don't want to do anything that might kill my new laptop.

I was thinking of shrinking some of Data (D)'s volume to create a smaller partition that's big enough to hold these HDDRecovery files, as they only really need about 10GB. So I would move these files to the new partition, and then extend the volume of the main Windows (C) drive into the Data (D) drive so that they become one.

The reason I think I have to do it this way, is that you can only extend the volume into the partition on the right of it, which is the Data (D) drive.

So my question - will moving these HDDRecovery files into a new smaller partition cause any harm? And is the way I'm doing things right?

Please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Mgmt drive map with listings, using SNipping Tool in Start Menu.

Also please include a screenshot of the contents of D drive after unhiding Hidden and System files in Control Panel>Folder Options>View.

Oh, and i've already created the smaller partition on the right that I hope to put the HDDRecovery files in.

The problem is that the 400mb Boot partition is also a Recovery partition which is meant to trigger the Recov folder to run if you run Factory Recovery from boot, or to make your Recovery DIsks.

So I would not move or tamper with those files to cause the loss of their 400mb>D link, but instead shrink D to a small partition at the right end of the drive so you can extend C into the rest of the space as you want.

Next I would download and burn free Partition Wizard bootable CD, boot it, rightclick on G to Delete, click OK. Then rightclick on D to Resize, slide right grey border all the way to the right, then slide left grey border to the right to make D approx 20 gb, click OK, click Apply.

Then rightclick C to Resize, slide right grey border to the right to take up the space resized from D, click OK, then Apply.
