Solved password recovery help

OK I play dark orbit flash game and have invested some money into that game.

My problem is that I had a laptop and now its gone but I still have the HDD. the version of windows 7 is 64 bit and the computer I have access to is only 32bit and I can't restore my settings and recover my password for the game. I also signed up for the game though syfy.com and am unable to get the password from them. I had the password stored in my firefox and in an email stored in a personal folder in windows live mail but am unable to restore either of these programs to allow me to see the password which is at least 32 char. long.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could get the password back from the hard drive as I know its stored some place but all the google I have done brings up nothing useful. I have tired the send me the password via email thing and of course since I signed up to the game though syfy com they wouldn't tell me what the password is and I am unable to change the password as I have tried in the past.

So I know I can't get the password from the firefox file key3.db as it just blanks out all the stored passwords. I have also tried to restore the mail folder from my old HDD into the new system which also failed. I don't want to give up a years worth of progress and the money I have invested into the game.

OK..I might have a way but it's a long shot since the key3db isn't the original you're using right now. I just tried it and it worked just fine with my installation.

Well..here goes:
#1) back up/move your actual key3db to a safe location
#2) Download FirePassword 3.5 Free . unpack it to your desktop (just the folder inside
#3) copy the key3.db with the password in question in the correct folder of your firefox installation usually
C:\Users\<Login name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<your profile>.default

#4) open a command prompt (CMD) and CD into the folder you unzipped onto the desktop in step2.
#5) enter in the command line

firepassword.exe >>.\pwd.txt

press Enter and after a few seconds you should find a file named pwd.txt with all the host/password combinations from your key3.db.

If you had a master password set then this way will not work...but there are programs out there for that too

when I opened it in firefox it would put my user and pass into the top fields and the firepass doesn't even see that i had that saved.

I remembered I had some form filler installed in firefox and that stored my password also and I was able to get the game password out of that. Thanks for your help.

As for FirePassword, I knew it was a long shot because that particular key3.db didn't match your actual profile.
I too rely heavily on FF to fill in my logins in all sites I visit
That's why I installed this FF Extension

I usually keep my exported PWs together with the backup of my profile
Just because it's such a pain to mail all boards for a new access-PW
