Over the past 18 months my computer has had an intermittent problem. I would go out of the room or leave overnight to come back to the fan running at full speed and the computer not responding when trying to wake it up. I also got on occasion BSOD. I attempted to chase the error down a while back with no success other than by removing the graphics card it would happen less often.

This resulted in evaluating the time possibly required to try to fix vs time to turn the computer back on, so left in too hard basket.

I have now got renewed energy to fix this problem (or replace computer). I have re-installed Hd6740 graphics card.

What I have attempted:
- Many, many things but notably download and install all the latest drivers i could find (and also used software program 'DriverNavigator' and "Glary utilities'
- Installed and run 'WhoCrashed', indicating 'ntoskrnl.exe' issue. But as the computer's main issue is hanging, nothing gets written to the dump file.
- Have run 'verifier' but could not get the computer to boot up... crashed to BSOD everytime.
- Have run Memtest86+ 10 passes with nil errors
- DM log collector, zip file attached. Actually can't get it to attach . "You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission" So "option2" instead.
- SF diagnostic tool results into zipped folder, now attached.

If I could get some help to correct my machine or confirm hardware issue that would be great.

Hi there,

First thing I would do is get rid of the driver program and Glary utilities.

Most of your dumps are pointing to your graphics driver,

Code:
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\atikmdag.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for atikmdag.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for atikmdag.sys
 atikmdag+0xebf28

Which is pretty recent,

Code:
Loaded symbol image file: atikmdag.sys
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\atikmdag.sys
    Image name: atikmdag.sys
    Timestamp: [COLOR="Red"]Thu Apr 17 19:13:16 2014 [/COLOR](53508A3C)
    CheckSum: 00EAEEE6
    ImageSize: 00F10000
    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4

Try using an earlier version,

My Recommendation is to:

Uninstall your installed latest version of the display driver.

Then clean up any possible leftover.

Then install version 13.9 WHQL only.

Let us know how things go with that driver.

One of your dumps also mentioned your HD Audio driver, I think we can come back to that later though.

Give that video driver a try and let us know how things go.

thanks for your reply, unfortunately (or fortunately) I think with the amount of stuff I have tried I may have totally messed up my system. I hated the idea of using the driver software program (I've been into computer for 30 years - my first being an Commodore 64!!) but was backed into a corner I thought as my time is very limited. But firefox crashed daily, I can't watch youtube media, I can't load up a video .... I am sure I have introduced some nasties.

So I am wiping the computer - clean slate - re-installing windows. I did this a year ago and it didn't fix the problem but at least I will start from a clean base to source the problem. I will restart a new thread once this is done, if I experience the problems again.

Does this sound like the best solution?

Thanks again.

You're welcome,

I think that's a good idea myself, you can stay in this thread if you start getting problems right away.

You can test your install in steps with just the vanilla install & updates, then just add programs as you need them to see if a certain one tips it.

You mentioned in your first post you think it's hardware, that would also come to light if a fresh install doesn't fix it.

Keep us posted and wish you well on the new install.
