Hello, I am having an issue where my PC locks up randomly (either gaming, Youtube, music, etc.). I am using Windows 7 Home Premium x64. When the computer locks up I hear a hissing sound or static through the speakers and have to manual power down the machine.

I downloaded the SF Diagnostic Tool and followed the instructions for the .zip file.

I also notice whenever I disconnect a USB device from the computer this happens as well. I do not however, receive a BSOD for either lockups.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Intel DH77EB Motherboard
Intel i5 3570k CPU
8 GB Ram
GeForce GTX 550 Ti

I've recently updated chipset drivers as well as the GPU driver.

Welcome aboard. We need some more info than the event logs.
upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
  3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
  4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
  5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

OK, let us see.

First of all, you are to install Service pack 1.
Code:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Version [COLOR=Red]6.1.7600 Build 7600[/COLOR]

Dont you use any Antivirus?
Install Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows, and MBAM free. Install, update and do a full system scan with both the programs, separately.

Disable USB Selective Suspense
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/147369-usb-selective-suspend-turn-off.html

The Event logs Date goes back to long past.
You may opt for a clean install. Perhaps it may solve such issues.
But, make it sure that you are installing service pack one, and using the suggested antivirus programs.

I have now performed a clean install, now upgraded to SP1...performed a scan with both tools you suggested (both came back clean). I just have this feeling this is all tied to the USB ports somehow. Here are my updated SFDT as well as MSINFO32 files.

Starting to believe this is all brought on by poor grounding in my case. I have a Cooler Master Storm Scout and anytime I even touch the usb port with even my finger the computer locks up. Not sure how to remedy that issue.

You need a mechanic here. Change all the USB ports and cables, ok? :(

Very strange, for sure.

Seems like the issue is consistent now. Definitely the case/motherboard disagreeing on something. Going to take everything out, rebuild the system in the case and see what happens.

Here's an update. Completely took all of the components and hardware out of the computer case and re-installed everything. So far no issues touching the case or with USB devices. I also installed a new I/O shield which may or may not have helped but I figured it wouldn't hurt (as I didn't have one in before).

Should I have this issue again I'll update again. Thanks for your help, Arc!
