The beep codes are not a win7 function but are generated by the hardware. the only suggestions I can give here is to check the physical seating of the card and to check the sleep settings in the BIOS.

you may also want to check if a BIOS update is available

1 long & 3 short beeps is no video card detected or bad video ram.

1 short beep is OK as this is the usual Post Pass beeb that ASUS boards do. Do you have to go through this routine all the time.

Edit. Seems to be a bit of confusion bellow about the codes.
An AMI BIOS, 1 short & 3 long is a system Ram error.
An Award BIOS, 1 short & 3 long is a VGA error.

The ASUS should have an AMI BIOS which points to the system ram. However the manual says the codes are VGA error.

If you look here: BiosCentral - AMI BIOS Beep Codes
And here:
http://www.ami.com/support/doc/AMIBIOS8_Checkpoint_and_Beep_Code_List_PUB.pdf

And you will see that AMI bios beep code -3 beeps, or 1 long + 3 short beeps, - is a RAM error.

Provided you did not attempt to overclock your RAM (if you did, then just reset the BIOS defaults) then try this:

Re-seat the RAM modules and make sure they are set all the way in until the keepers click tight.
If the symptom continues, remove all the RAM and install just one stick at a time into slot #1 and test until you find the bad stick.

yes I have the latest bios update for the board , according to the asus manual 1 long and 3 short are telling me that no vga detected , so how is this down to ram as if it were I would have problems in all my games . the pc boots all the time . it is only if I have to restart for updates etc. as for sleep setting ??? just what would this be under in bios? when I updated the bios it tells you to set defaults which I did , also would the beep codes from 2008 be the same for my i7 mb , any way will try the memory as the pc is still under waranty

I'm sorry, I have a P6T also and just looked at my manual and you are right. It says no VGA Detected for that beep code. It may be that they have changed the beep codes for these new boards (that's a freaking headache!).

So for video, the usual suspects:
*- The card is a brick (completely defective) - You test this by trying it in another computer.

*- The card is not seated properly in the slot. Reseat the card and make sure it clicks in.

*- Missing auxiliary power connector.

*- Power supply issue on the auxiliary power connector - try a different connector.

*- PCI-e slot issue - try another slot.

*- BIOS setting (only applies when you have on-board video

*- Overclocking the graphics card - restore defaults.

Hope that helps.
