PC slow for a couple of weeks

The problem is likely the inferior HP Factory Preinstalled Win7 with all of the bloatware and duplicate utiltiies which have better versions built into Win7. These throttle Win7 native performance and cause endless issues.

It's the difference between the worst possible install you can have and the best one which is our specialty here.

That's why most tech enthusiasts will not run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything is provided in the blue link tutorial.

At the minimum I'd Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

If this doesn't resolve performance problems, work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

There was a step I was unable to perform. After I clicked on "download now," I allowed the download, but there was no time that I could have done the drop-&-drag. So, now I have two reports which I cannot get posted onto the board. I copied & saved both and tried to save them into my documents, but was told I couldn't do that. Then I selected my pictures, but the reports aren't there, either.

The problem is that they are not on my desktop as I was unable to do the drop and drag. After the download, the scan began and there was not a chance for me to get it onto my desk top. Why do I have to drop & drag? Can't I just create a short-cut to the desktop?

The two reports from the scan are in my tray at the bottom of my screen. I have no way to get them to you.

You uploaded the same file with different names .

After you ran DDS it opens up two text files . One called DDS.txt and the other is Attach.txt

OK, that is bizarre. The two files are label DDS & Attach. But when I open them, they are the same thing. That's why I keep sending you duplicates. I can't make this stuff up.

You missed your clue in Post #21. You have the worst install of Win7 one could have. Why rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic? You are at the top site for Win7 reinstall on the web.

This computer was supposedly relieved of all of its bloatware when it was in the hands of my computer guy after the dreaded FBI ransom virus. I know HP is not the Ferrari of the PC world, but it's what I've got for now. The virus was about two & a half months ago, and the computer has been running fine until a couple of weeks ago. I find it hard to believe my problem is just bloatware.

If I have to replace my current Windows Seven, how much of my saved info will I lose? I have no external hard drive; all I have is the usual back-up in a 16-gig Lexor.

Pretty sure you can put your stuff into a partitioned hard drive and install your OS on a 50gb-ish one. Even at that, it's not too hard to reinstall things. To be quite honest, you should be more careful as to what you install during downloads and also make sure you take CARE of your computer by running the programs that are crucial for it.

I'm old, but pretty aware of what and what not to download. I am also a shut-in and have to shop online. I think that is the source of most of my problems. After all, I can't do much about stuff attached to ads containing malware that appear on sites I visit. I routinely change my passwords and run malware bytes weekly.

What else do you suggest I do to keep this computer happy?
