PC will not re-login

Hello all, I really need some help here. On initial startup, my pc(64-bit) will login just fine. But if I logout, wether it be immediately or overnight, upon my return the pc will not log back in. I attempt the login and the username and password fields dissapear, but then I get nothing. It has been happening for about a week now and all I have installed is Microsoft Office 2010. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

What anti-malware/virus software do you have installed? Is it up-to-date? Have you run any scans recently?

It has Command-anti-virus and it is up to date. However, it is telling me that there are .bat files to be updated but when I try to update it doesn't do anything.

Can you open one of these .BAT files with a text editor, and post the contents here - note: do NOT upload the BAT file here, just copy & paste the contents here.

I can't open the files. They are just updates that go to Command. I uninstalled and reinstalled the anti-virus and now it is up to date with all .bat files installed and I am still getting the error.

It sounds as though you may have got an infection, download and install the program from this link below and then run a full scan to see if it comes up with anything and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

I agree with BFK : time to scan your system with another product like Malwarebytes. The behviour you describe doesn't sound usual to me.

We just completed a scan with Malwarebytes scanner. The only issue we found was one associated with the "Dealio Toolbar" which we promptly removed. Restarted pc, logged in, waited a minute, logged out, tried to log back in and all we get is "login successful" and then nothing.

The next easiest to try is an sfc /scan from an elevated command window, have a go at that and let us know the outcome, it may take running the scan a couple times to complete successfully.

We had tried sfc /scan already and came up with nothing. A new development is that we tried to re-login and just let it sit. After about 15 minutes it finally did login completely. So now it just takes forever to log back in. Ideas?

Uninstall Command-anti-virus, then install Microsoft Security Essentials

Now see if you can re-logon within a reasonable time period.

It sounds like Command is doing something (probably legitimately) prior to allowing login, but it is hogging your system resources. This isn't too unusual - I saw something similar with Norton. If you follow Jacee's advice and install MSE you might find it boots quicker since MSE is more lightweight, requiring less resources.

Ok so we un-installed Command, came in to work this morning after just logging off last night, and it worked... Then I just barely logged off and tried to log back in and the problem is back.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Adobe Speed Launcher, Adobe ARM, Java Update, QuickFinder Scheduler, swg(Google toolbar, Microsoft Default Manager, Nalview(Novell Zenworks), ZenNotifyIcon(Zenworks), TkBellExe(Realplayer?), DW6(Weather Channel), Sidebar, Google Update, and CallPilot MWI Icon.Ink(Nortel CallPilot). I recently disabled a bunch of things that is not needed at startup, so this is all that remains.

1. Unzip/extract the file to its own folder:
C:\Silent Runners.
3. Right click (to run as Administrator) the SilentRunners.vbs inside the folder or on your desktop
to start.
4. A message box will appear asking if you want to skip the supplemental
searches.
5. Press "Yes" to skip [default] or "No" to include them.
6. Another message box will appear saying: "Silent Runners has started. A
message box like this will appear when its done." The tool will scan your
system and create a log by default, in the same directory as the script or
one your desktop. The log is named "Startup Programs (ComputerName)
date/timestamp.txt".
7. When finished, the next message to appear will say: "All Done! the
results are in the file..." (it will provide the full path location of the
log.
8. Copy & paste the log in your next reply.
Note: If you have a script blocking program you may get a warning asking if
you want to allow the script to run. Some will say "malicious script
warning" or something to that effect. There is nothing malicious about this
script, you can click to allow it to execute.

Before you sent that, I disabled everything at startup-restarted-logged in-logged out-attemtped to re-login and nothing.

Since then I did run another sfc /scan, actually a /scannow. At the end I was told that there were many things that the scan could not fix. I have attached the log and was wondering if someone can take a look at it and let me know if they find anything.

I did make a new file, but still don't see anything. Have you looked at the other file I just uploaded?

Have you tried or thought about a repair install?
