pcie sata II card

Hiya I have a sata 1 motherboard on a windows 7 system Im trying to fit a pci e sata II card the question is do I need to install drivers first.ive gave it a try and the pc wont boot when i connect a ssd boot drive to the card, I thought it would just plug and play

Before connecting a drive to the card, install the drivers from the disc or the manufacturer's website. If you just installed the card and then hooked up a drive to the card, more than likely, Windows will not be able to see the drive.
