About two weeks ago Windows 7 (64-bit) stopped remembering my preferred Performance Settings (My Computer > Properties > Advanced System Settings > (Performance) Settings). For example, I want to enable "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing." I can check this option in the Performance settings, but the duration that Windows will remember this setting is arbitrary.
Sometimes, the setting will be kept until the next time I reboot, but at other times the setting will only be in effect for a random length of time - minutes to hours - before it reverts to being disabled. I cannot determine any specific set of circumstances that might be causing this.
I have tried to gain ownership of the key located here in the Registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\AnimateMinMax thinking that there may be a permissions problem, but I had no success. I can't take ownership of the key, nor can I change its permissions.
I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered. Thanks!
