Performance slowed down by Aero

Hi! I have the following problem:
After only one wake up of the PC (resume from sleep) when I close an opened window the Aero close effect seems to freeze on the last frame for 3-4 seconds. I am using the latest updates. This has been so ever since I installed Windows 7. I am not fully sure what could be causing this, and whether Aero is the case. It might be something else. If I close an opened Photoshop, since the Aero close effect cannot be applied on the Photoshop window, the app closes, but my mouse freezes for 3-4 seconds. Does anyone have any idea what causes this? I have tried several things like disabling/closing open applications, closing all gadgets trying a new theme... No avail.
Can you please help? This doesn't seem to happen every time I close, but it's incredibly annoying when it does happen!!!

Can I assume from your description of the issue that this only happens after a sleep cycle - not from a clean start?

If this is the case then it would point to an incompatibility between the OS and the Motherboard, First thing to try is to see if there is an update available for your motherboard drivers, and/or your system BIOS - these are the usual cause of this type of issue.

If you are running the latest updates then some tweaking with the Bios ACPI settings may cure the problem

On the official website it only gave me drivers for audio, and when I installed them and made a reboot my audio was gone!
I know how to fix this though, but downloads from realtek suck because the speed is about as fast as a snail. Any other suggestions?

I have a similar issue.
Sad thing is, it only started doing this on this last install.
my first install using the exact same disk no problem at all. this time. my video card seems to go crazy upon wakeup

What methods have you tried? Maybe something that won't work with you will work for me and something that is useless for me will be the solution for you!

Thanks, but I already fixed the audio, found out I have a spare CD. Any suggestions for the aero-slowdown bug???

Now I just realized another bug - when Media Player is open my fourth core is at 100%. And this happens randomly. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't... Suggestions?...

look for updated drivers from the manufacturer of your motherboard not the OEM who built the computer if you havent. maybe getting newer drivers from them than what has been approved by the OEM can fix this issue.

I contacted my OEM and they said all PC components are fully compatible with Windows 7. Still, on the CD I got with the motherboard I only found drivers for Windows Vista... My motherboard isn't recognized by Everest, and I can't seem to really figure out what my motherboard is. I might try to find out what it is, but for now the solution looks like dual boot - Seven with Vista. If you think of something else please respond... Getting an OS just as I want it to be ain't easy work, so I really wanna fix this

There are alternatives to Everest to obtain this information

Take a look at SIW or Belarc advisor if both these fail there is always the "open the case and look" method

Another answer to your particular issue, if the drivers are not yet available, is to simply disable the Sleep/Hibernate function which is causing the issue or check the settings in the Bios to ascertain if a modification here may solve the issue

Bookmark these (based on your current system specs),

1. Intel - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx - for yours you want teh Intel 3 Series chipset driver

2. Your ATI card - http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/1810-latest-ati-catalyst-driver-windows-7-a.html - just keep an eye on this thread as the ATI video drivers get updated once per month.

3. Realtek audio - http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/3756-latest-realtek-hd-audio-driver-version.html

As to the issues you are having, it almost sounds like something in Windows is broken. Did you install 7, or did it come that way? Might be worth making a full backup (7's backup will work just fine for this), and doing a clean install with all drivers the latest you can find and see if the problems persist.

The computer had no installed OS. I put it 7600 x64. Disc was burned at snail speed, kept in perfect conditions. I'll try to repair via the install CD, but I might format and install a later build/edition if available. No need to worry about the data - I keep all my important data and files on an external USB HDD. Will post after attempt of repair. If repair doesn't help I will post after reinstall. Now I'll go check my data.

Not really... My computer has a 3 year warranty currently undergoing. I bought this PC the 5th of August so it's still kinda fresh... I can do whatever I want, but I need to get the PC to the store (where I got it) and I have to ask them to open the box AND keep my warranty. I know you didn't get anything, but I'm sleepy and I don't think about what I write...

Last question: Could this be caused by a hardware malfunctioning error? I know this usually ends with a BSOD, but who knows. I'm mister software-click-click not hardware-...whatever... .... .. ..... blah ...... .. .

Latest drivers for the ATI HD 4850. Don't see the reason for your question though... I have fully listed my system specs.

Has it done this right from the installation time? Do you have any weird Themes installed?

I have heard of similar issues with certain video cards/driver combinations, hence my question regarding the video card and drivers.

If it has been that way since the get go I would recommend backing up and wiping the slate clean. Also, you may want to consider installing the RTM as opposed to 7600.

I just saw something interesting while removing a program I no longer need:


Even though some might think this is a stupid question... should I remove this? It may be possible for Windows Update or some other cr*p to have installed this, since I have and Intel based configuration. Only difference is I DON'T STICK WITH nVIDIA! I'd usually remove this immediately after I saw it, but since the situation we've got here is pretty tight I just thought I'd ask...
P.S.: I also ran Memory Diagnostics Tool and repaired my Windows via the install DVD, but it didn't work.
