Brink, I have a similar problem and have tried many solutions posted by yourself and others. My problem is that Photo Gallery will not let me add any folder. I have tried a folder from my documents, my pictures, desktop and all give me the same issue nothing shows in Gallery. In one forum I was reading it stated to change photo gallery properties to Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) and see what happens. Now when I tried to add a folder, it says that some folders are hidden and gallery can't open hidden files. I have search for hidden files and I do not see any hidden files. I read in a different forum that my user profile my be hidden.

I have tried the command prompt solution but I receive parameter format not correct -
I did a copy and paste of
attrib +r -s -h %USERPROFILE%\Pictures /S /D

Please help. I use photo gallery on my laptop with no issue but with my desktop nothing is working.
Thanks

No, it is Photo Gallery. I can open jpg file in the photo gallery viewer, but if I try to edit the files are not found in photo gallery. Attached are a few screen shots with notes between each screen shot

I would recommend to turn off (uncheck) Compatibility Mode for Photo Gallery to get rid of the error caused after turning it on. No need for it in Windows 7.

Do you have the latest version of Windows Photo Gallery 2012 installed from Microsoft Essentials 2012?

I noticed that you do not have your "C:\Users\Public\Public Pictures" folder included. You might also include this location to see if it may be there instead.

1. I had the latest version of Essentials and prior to posting I did an uninstall and reinstall which did not help.
2. Turning off Compatibility mode did not help.
3. I had searched all over for hidden folders (grayed out) as I figured that was the problem, and could not find any. But when I looked for C:\Users\Public\Public Pictures I could not find it. Did a search and could not find it, then I search for C:\Users and found that all user folders were hidden (default, public, my own user ID) even though in windows explorer (left side tree view) the folders showed up and were not Hidden or grayed out.

I have unhidden all these files and BINGO all pictures display in Photo Gallery.

I gave this long explanation just in case someone else has the same issue.
Thanks so much

Ah, it seems that you Public Pictures folder is the one hidden, and the one the pics are in instead.

Does the C:\Users\Public folder show when you do not have hidden files set to show?

If so, then you can run the command below in an elevated command prompt to unhide the Public Pictures folder. This way you can have your hidden files set to not show again.

attrib +r -s -h "C:\Users\Public\Pictures" /S /D

C:\Users\Public folder now shows. The pictures are in my pictures under my user name. But it was strange, if i checked the my pictures folder from libraries, file properties showed not hidden, but under c:user/"my user name" they showed as hidden, no idea what happened but at least it is now working great.

By the way, I have checked these forums so often to solve problems, this was the first time that the answer I needed was not already posted by someone else, so that means you guys have a great wealth of knowledge available, thanks
