Physical Memory Usage

Hi, I just want to confirm if my PC is performing alright. I have recently started task manager and noticed that my physical memory usage is around 50%, I have hardly any applications open. Is this normal? If not how do I resolve such a problem?

EDIT: I have 4 GB of RAM running Windows 7 and as I said the only applications other than the ones running at start-up that I have open are sticky notes and IE

Hello Woppy,

You can open Resource Monitor and click on the Memory tab to see what all is using your memory. I have 12GB of RAM and currently sitting at 21% being used without much open, so it doesn't sound like your's may be completely unreasonable. You might have something running in the background that is using up memory.

Hmmm....

I have 8Gbs memory with number of programs, Word, Outlook, FF, etc. running and it reports 20%...

4 GB of Ram, I-3 Processor....I did Resource Monitor it seems svchost.exe there's a few different one's running that are chewing up a lot of memory

Note that with a 32-bit OS you are only able to use 2.5-3.25GB of RAM regardless of the physical amount installed, you need a 64-bit OS for full RAM usage

Could not get everything to fit, but the apps that use the most are the highest up, if you want another shot, tell me. thanks

It has never run this high before, the only "new" things that I did yesterday was use Nero BackItUp to create a backup point which i transferred to an external harddrive. I then deleted the contents of "My Downloads"/

Are you having issues? Are there any problems to report?
If not then don't worry about it. The computer is more then smart enough to handle RAM.

You have 4 GBs of RAM, paid all that money to have it. Now make use of it all! Don't let it go to waste.
